Found Dead in Chair at Office Body Discovered by Mrs. H. E. Borntrager; Was Last Seen Alive About 10:30 Tuesday Dr. C. E. V. Sams was found dead in his chair Thursday morning about 11:30 when Mrs. H. E. Borntrager called at his office for medical supplies. It is supposed that he had been dead for some time as he was sitting in his chair with the Tuesday morning News-Herald in one hand and his pipe in the other. Dr. Sams had seemed to be in good health as nearly every morning and evening he could be found in the yard at his home mowing grass, pruning trees, shrubs or working with his flowers. The cause of death was a heart attack. Dr. Sams came here as a young man 50 years ago in 1894 to practice medicine and has been on the job every since that time. Arrangements for the funeral and burial had not been made at press time, but it is presumed that it will be as early as possible as the condition of the body did not warrant delay. Burial will be made in Hutchinson in a mausoleum beside the body of his wife who passed away five years ago. As the good doctor has said to the writer on occasions, “there’ll be a lot of people miss Ol’ Doc when he’s gone,” and no doubt he spoke the truth.
