ON May 15, 1877, Elias Palmatier took over as postmaster of the Salt Creek Post Office. Palmatier indicated to the Post Office Department Topographer's Office, in Washington D.C. on Mar 16, 1885, that the Salt Creek P.O. Office was located in his home. There were many P.O. operating in the area, i.e. Westminster, Dean, Idaville, Nonpareil. The Salt Creek P.O. was moved to Abbyville as of May 17, 1886, which was in Westminster Township, it being a brand new town with about 50 inhabitants.
