MARGARET M’CURDY, PIONEER WOMAN, IS DEAD She Has Been a Resident of Hutchinson and Reno County Since 1874. Mrs. Margaret McCurdy, a pioneer woman of Hutchinson and wife of the late John P. McCurdy, a wealthy land owner of Reno county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S.A. Poe, in Columbus, Ohio, at 7 o’clock last night. Mrs. McCurdy had been ill for about ten days, and her death was due to apoplexy, as she had an attack the first part of the week. Mrs. McCurdy went to Columbus, Ohio, to visit her daughter a few days before Christmas. Mrs. McCurdy was 71 years of age on the fourth day of last December. She was born in Pittsburg, Pa., December 4, 1843. Her maiden name was Margaret Updegraff. She was married to John P. McCurdy at Fairfield, Pa., in 1865. The family moved to Hutchinson in 1874. That fall they moved to a ranch 36 miles southwest of Hutchinson. Five years later, in 1879, they moved to Hutchinson again and bought the house on North Main street which has been the McCurdy home ever since. John P. McCurdy died ten years ago. Mrs. McCurdy was the mother of eight children, five of whom are living. They are: U.B. McCurdy, of Port Lavaca, Texas; Mrs. G.E. Cassidy, of Okmulgee, Okla.; Mrs. S.A. Poe, of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. R.A. Stewart, of 801 North Main street, and Dr. H.U. McCurdy, who lives at home. Three brothers and a sister also survive. The funeral will be held from the home of Dr. R.A. Stewart, 801 North Main street, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Services will be conducted by officers of the Christian Science church of which Mrs. McCurdy was a member. Relatives will arrive with the body Sunday afternoon. All of the children are expected to be here for the funeral.
