    3. I would like to know if Henry Clay Smith, who died April 3, 1959 is listed in the Reno County Cemetery book. The obituary I have doesn't state the cemetery name. Would like to know which cemetery he is buried in. Thanks, Carl Sprouse cs05227@alltel.net

My wife is Betty Jean Steinhauser Thomas, daughter of Franklin Steinhauser. Franklin's father was Frank who was William's (in this info) brother and both were son's of Michael Steinhauser. However, I will be in the Sandusky, OH area during the Holidays and will try to spend some time in the Library there and see what I can find. The R. B. Hayes presidential Library, in Fremont, also has an excellent obit and genealogy collection of the area communities and is another source. Some is online.

    1. interesting!

    3. Someone sent this to me, have not checked it out but thought it very interesting....A Christmas carol that has always baffled me.... What in the world do leaping lords; French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge that won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas? From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality, which the children could remember. The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ. Two turtledoves were the Old and New Testaments. Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love. The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke &John. The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament. The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation. Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy. The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes. Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments. The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples. The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed. So there is your history lesson for today.

I think Samuel, the father, died in Ohio between 1850 and 1860. Thanks again.

Our Greenwood comes from Germany, originally Grünewald. They settled in Illinois and the son Peter went to Salem-Dallas Oregon and from there several children went to Seattle and parts of Washington. The Peter Samuel Greenwood III obit you sent, is mine. Evidently he went to Hutchinson for his employment. The obituary doesn't name any cemetery or place following cremation. I am trying to locate one of the daughters. I wonder whether there is a chance of getting his mother's obituary. Beatrice June Byrd married a 3rd time to Virgil B Kendall 8 June 1947 Kansas City. She died November 1981 Leonardville, Riley County, KS.
