    2. Stephen Carlile
    3. I am looking for an obituary for either Dorothy Jane Anderson McFadden who died 13 Jun 1996 in Hutchinson, Reno, Kansas, or for her husband, Jay Wayne McFadden who died 3 Jan 1992 also in Hutchinson, I believe. My mother thought that they had two daughters, who would be my second cousins on the Anderson side of the family. I would appreciate it greatly if someone who has access to the newspapers could check for me. Thank you very much.

I have a GREAT DEAL of information on Christopher Columbus Fry's daughter, Gertrude. She was my great grandmother. I am 40 years old and still have very fond memories of her. Her marriage did not last long to Charles O. Glass. They divorced and many years later, she remarried Chester Ellison Van Dolah Coleman. I never met my great-grandfather Charles. I remember "Grandpa Coleman" as my great-grandfather and he was the SWEETEST, KINDEST, gentle man you would ever meet. I feel very blessed to have had them both in my life. My e-mail address is catherin@itouch.net. Feel free to contact me there and I'll try to compile all the information you need. My database on the WFT has it all, too. It's titled "Glass-Mowdy Branches". I would LOVE any and all information you have on this line, too. Thanx and good luck!

I also don't mean to cause the genealogical masses to swamp the telephones at the local schools, but when I want to know something about a former student or classmate, I just call the school. Hutchinson High School has an alumni division, someone who keeps track of graduates and past students for the purpose of helping the graduated classes find their classmates for reunions. Even if they don't have any indications of where the student went, I think they would at least be able to tell you if they were enrolled and give you some dates. You might call the office at the high school and get the name of someone who can look at the records for you, to see if there are any Young entries listed for about 5 or 6 years on either side of your target dates. The number is 620-665-4500,. I couldn't say whether the junior college would have the same service (alumni tracking), but they may have someone who could perhaps look through the old registration records and tell you if anyone with those names were enrolled, even if they didn't make the yearbook. The number for HCC is 620-665-3500, to call and ask for someone who can help you discover where to write for a record.

First, she's not in the cemetery I thought she was in. She's in the Hayes cemetery located about 6 miles north of town in blow-sand country. This is when the roads get blown over with fine silty sand, sort of like drifting snow, and a person can get stuck if they're not careful. This isn't a problem with a 4x4 if you have one, which we do, but it does mean that if there's an impression in the ground (like a stone marker in a cemetery), it tends to get covered over and you might have to take a metal rod or long stick to prod the ground. Second, the name Amelia was recorded in the cemetery record as "Amalia", and this may have been the spelling on the stone, since the book was compiled by volunteers who actually went out and walked the cemeteries. They said it looks like a cow pasture from the road - not many visible stones, no gate to speak of, and since I have not yet found the cemetery, they're probably right. I put 30 miles on the truck trying to find a little country cemetery 6 miles out, which proves it's not marked well. I'll have to take a county map along with me and go back out again. The weather hasn't been too cooperative lately, with severe thunderstorms in and out over the last few days. Seems like when I'm ready to go out again, it starts to rain, but considering the territory, rain isn't a bad thing. Third, I met a Yust relative who started to gush and tell me all about the family until she discovered I was just there to try and do someone else a favor, and then she tried to help me with directions to the place and said she'd be happy to help if you got in touch. While I was in Sylvia, I stopped in at the library (it doubles as the city office when the clerk is in) to see about Yust burials, and while I was waiting for the librarian to go through her explanation of why she couldn't access the cemetery records, a lady came in and came over to listen. She asked what I was looking for, and when I told her she became very excited and said that was her family. I didn't write down her name, but the librarian knew her pretty well, and it's a town of maybe 200, tops, within the city limits. She was a large woman with short reddish brown hair wearing a denim dress and she asked for a piece of candy to offset a bad taste in her mouth. I got the impression she's a regular library client. I think, if you want to get in touch with the family, all you would need to do is write to the librarian and ask about the remaining Yust family and connections there. Write to Sylvia Library or the Sylvia City Clerk, Sylvia Kansas 67581. You won't need a street address. The whole town is less than 10 blocks in any direction, and the business district is 1 or 2 blocks long. The library and the city office are in the same building, about 50 yards from the post office. Meanwhile, I'm still looking for information.

    3. Hi, Carl, I was at the library yesterday and walked past one of the librarian's desk and saw the obituary of Harold Francis Collins laying on her desk. I took a copy of it and it is as follows: HAROLD FRANCIS COLLINS Wichita -- Harold Francis collins, 32, died May 6, 1995, at his home at Wichita. He was born Aug. 2, 1962, at Hutchinson, the son of Gerald and Delores Cook Collins. He was a Wichita resident, formerly of Haven. Survivors include: wife, Tonya Collins, of the home; two stepsons, Robert Eubanks, Hutchinson, and Adam Adred, Rose Hill; three stepdaughters, Jennifer Pitts, Burrton, Olivia Adred, Houston, and Denise Campbell, Wichita; mother, Haven; and six step-grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 6:30 p. m. today at First Baptist Church, Maize. Hillside Funeral Home, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements. The above is as it was written. I would suggest that you contact Hillside Funeral Home in Wichita and find out where he is buried. The church may also be able to help you. I hope this helps and good luck on your research.
