Robert owned a chain of jewlry stores around Kansas and is shown as being 36 and living in Reno County in 1920. His father John Douglas brown moved to Kansas some time in the late 1800's after growing up in Kentucky. John BROWN most likely died in Reno County in the year 1888. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
I just received a copy of John Starkey's obituary that stated he was survived by his wife, Frances, and a daughter, Miss Gwendolyn Starkey, 405 East 15th Street in Hutchinson. My family records indicate that Gwendolyn married and had at least one child, but I do not know anything more. Are there any records available to the public reflecting marriages after 1932 in Reno County, probably in Hutchinson. I would guess that in 1932 Gwendolyn would have been about 22 years of age if she was born about one year after John and Frances were married. Thank you very much.

Hi, List... My husband and I visit the cemeteries around our area where our ancestors/relatives are buried and transcribe from the headstones, sometimes taking pictures (when I can remember to take my camera, haha). Thought it might be helpful to pass along the URL to our page in case there might be someone out there who needs to peruse the transcriptions once in a while for their own roots. I have Reno County and Harvey County cemeteries on one page, which is http://www.oned-onej.com/carmichael/cem_inscriptions.html Cemeteries we are working on are: Burrton Cemetery, Harvey County Fairlawn Cemetery, Reno County (just starting) Greenwood Cemetery, Harvey County (just starting) Halstead Cemetery, Harvey County Hunt-Shive Cemetery, Harvey County Laurel Cemetery, Reno County Valley Township Cemetery, Reno County And if anyone ever recognizes names from the transcriptions, please let us know...most all of these are our ancestors and we might be related! Enjoy and happy hunting! Diana :)

Hi, I checked the Reno County, Ks Early Marriage Records and found the following: W. H. Collier, 24, Reno Co., KS. Octavia Desboullons, 15, Reno County, KS. Married 10 February 1897, Hutchinson, KS. The original records are stored with the Probate Court of Reno County. This marriage is recorded in book 5 on page 293. I will try to get a copy of the record or at least the information on the marriage. It may take me a week or two because I have several other projects that are keeping me busy. I get to the court house at least once a week so I will look for you.
