Surnames: Graves, Slack, and others Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADE/978 Message Board Post: Looking for information to confirm or refute. About 1908, a girl named Ernestine Meryl McIver was born. She was the youngest of a large family and was sent to live with friends or relatives by the name of Robert M Taylor and his wife Daisy L. Graves Taylor. About 1930, she left the hometown of Arlington, after the death of Daisy, and moved to Denver The Taylor family and the Graves family has maintained that Ernestine was adopted, the church records showed her name as Taylor, but Ernestine said she wasn't. How do we find out if she was adopted and known as Taylor, or was a foster child with the name McIver? We simply wish to know so as to clear up the discrepancy in our genealogy records and mark her appropriately. BTW, The Taylors are all dead now, and Ernestine died in 1989, leaving no children.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADE/966.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Cindy, I know this query is almost a month old but I thought I would respond anyway to your question about how hard it is to get a KS death certificate. It's not hard at all. All you have to do is download the form from their site http://www.kdhe.state.ks.us/vital/ fill it out and send it in with $12.00 (starting July 1, 2002 - right now it's $11.00). There may be some questions on the form you can't answer but don't let that deter you. Usually as long as you know the date of death and county it took place in you should be okay. A note of caution: they won't send you the info if the death occurred after 1940 or if the person isn't an immediate family member (i.e. 2nd or 3rd cousin). I tried that and turned down. I was basically told to find a living relative to this person and have them supply me with the info. That would have been fine and dandy if any of this person's children were still alive or I knew who their descendants were! Anyway... regardless of that one incident my other dealings with the KDHE have been very good and the death certificate usually arrives about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks after I have mailed in my application.
