In this case, I took the liberty of looking up Ellen Sherow, and yes, she was living in the city of Nickerson in 1920. In this case, the township name reference is the city of Nickerson. Now, for the second question. Kingman is in Kingman County. It is the county seat also. Now, question three. In 1912, it is listed as Fostoria, in Shannon Township, Pottawatomie County. Hope this helps.
Hi, Melanie Fostoria is in Pottawatomie County in Kansas. It is in the northeast quarter of the state. If the map you have uses abbreviations, it would be PT. This is new to me as I lived in Pottawatomie County for 6 years. It is full of little tiny places, most of which are pretty neat! Also, here is a little site that is extremely helpful when doing genealogy in a "foreign" state. You select the first letter of the town you are looking for (F), then the next screen gives you more choices - you select (Fo), etc. It shows Fostoria, Kansas www.placesnamed.com Hope this helps. Greetings Reno County researchers, I have a dilemma. My GrGrGr. Grandmother, Hannah Grindle died in NIckerson KS on 6 Mar 1911. I have her obituary which states that she was buried in Wildmeade cemetery, but the sexton does not have a record of her being buried there. The sexton does however have a record of a lot purchase by Hannah's son-in-law, P.Maize, but there is nothing marking her grave. I feel fairly confident that Hannah is buried in this lot. Although there are no other burials in this lot, the surrounding lots are filled with cousins. Hannah's daughter and son-in-law (Susannah & Pinkney Maize) moved back to Missouri shortly after Hannah died. Here is my problem. I would very much like to put a marker there for her, but I do not know which space in the lot she is buried in. I have an idea which space because there in a significant lowering in the ground in one area. But I cannot be 100% certain that she is even in the lot that I think she's in. Can anyone think of a way I can further prove that she is buried there? I could check funeral homes in the area for a possible record. Where else might I look for a record of her burial? The only other way I can think of would be to dig. Yes, I know how this sounds, but how else can I prove she's there? Would appreciate any thoughts. Laura in Haskell Co. KS bradlara@pld.com
Hannah Grindle died in 1911 in Nickerson KS. What mortuary would have taken care of her burial? Laura bradlara@pld.com
Does anyone know of a good book on the history of Reno County? I'm especially interested in Lerado, Turon, Arlington, and Langdon. Thanks, Pat Frunzi
