    1. [KSReno] marriage records from Reno County courthouse
    2. Carl M. Sprouse
    3. Is there any way to find out if a marriage certificate exists at the county level at the courthouse in Hutchinson, Kansas without just ordering a certificate copy? Do they have like a register book listing the marriages and dates, like McPherson County has? I am looking for the marriages of my Grandparents and my Great-Grandparents on my father's side of the family. Thanks! Carl M. Sprouse (cs05227@alltel.net)

Surnames: HAMILTON, GORMLEY, SISK, GRABER, WILLIAMS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADE/1005 Message Board Post: Obituary of Gerald (Gerry) Hamilton, born 1901 in Hutchinson, KS. Died 1967 in Marietta, Ohio Son of Charles Gilpin Hamilton & Hattie Gormley Brothers: Newton Hamilton & Eugene Hamilton ================================ November 29, 1967 The Marietta Times, Marietta, Ohio MC PROF GERALD L. HAMILTON DIES FOLLOWING HEART ATTACK Prof Gerald Less Hamilton, 66, retired head of the Edward R. MacTaggart Dept of Music at Marietta College, died at 5:30 PM yesterday in Marietta Memorial Hospital where he was admitted about 3 PM after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home at 409 Wooster St. Death came to the man affectionately known to many Mariettans as "Mr. Music" as he was in the midst of preparation for one of his best-loved activities, the annual presentation of "The Messiah". Thousands of MC students, alumni and area persons have sung or played under his direction in "Messiah" performances since 1926. His musicianship also touched others as he served as conductor of the College-Civic Symphonette and during the 20 years he directed the Allegro Club, an adult choral society in Parkersburg. This year's presentation of "The Messiah" will be performed as scheduled, serving as a memorial to the man who devoted so many hours every year toward one of the musical highlights of the Christmas holy season. Gerald Lee Hamilton was born Sept 22, 1901, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Charles Gilpin and Hattie Gormley Hamilton. On Jun 2, 1927, he married Dallas Sisk, who died in 1960. He attended high school in Kansas and received his bachelor of arts degree from Washburn University at Topeka in 1923. In 1926, Boston University awarded him a master's degree. While at Boston and the New England Conservatory of Music, he served as director of music at First Congregational Church in Lynn, Mass, and directed the Lynn Little Symphony Orchestra. He attended Harvard University, singing at that time with the Boston Symphony Orchestra Chorus. He came to Marietta College as assistant professor of music in 1926, becoming associate professor in 1946 and full professor in 1949. From 1949 until he retired in August of this year, Professor Hamilton headed the music department. Since then, he has continued to work with the college as coordinator of musical activities. In addition to his musical contacts, he made many friends through his slide and lecture programs on his travels in European countries. Professor Hamilton was listed in Who's Important in Music", a record of leaders in the music field, and in 1965 he was honored here by the Fourth Annual Band-o-Rama for his years of devotion to music in the community. Surviving relatives are three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eugene Hamilton of Hutchinson, KS, Mrs. Newton Hamilton of Pretty Prairie, Kan., and Robert G. Williams of Charleston, W. Va.; two nieces and two nephews, Miss Kathryn Ann Williams of Charleston, Mrs. Mary Francis Graber of Kansas, Maj. Charles Hamilton, Jr. in Viet Nam and Robert G. Williams, Jr. Charleston. His two brothers, Eugene and Newton, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. John S. Dilley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Harold Hadley and Sons Funeral Home from 7 to 9 PM tomorrow.

Surnames: Glass, Coleman, Minner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADE/188.50.51.576.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: I have quite a collection of photos in SOME of my books on the Glass family, including a few of the Coleman ones where they pertain directly to the Glass relatives. I'm not entirely sure of what I do have at the moment, but would be happy to take some pictures for you if my own selection doesn't cover what you're looking for. Sorry, I don't recognize the name Catherine Robinson. Jim and I would be interested in any additions either of you can make to the work I have been conducting on the family. Obviously, my personal interest takes me more to the Glass and Graves connections in Reno County and surrounding areas than the other points of view, but I'm happy to share & exchange what I do have. I started working on Jimmy's family tree during the summer of 2000, six months before we got married. Living here in the same county where most of these people settled and remained, or returned to, has some distinct advantages. For instance, Eastside is only about 3 miles away from us. I know the caretaker there well enough for him to recognize me. We do favors for one another from time to time. If I have a copy of an obit to exchange for photocopies of the interment orders and lot cards, he gets excited since some of the ones he has are incomplete. Let me know what you're after and we'll see what we can put together this winter as the weather cooperates. Meanwhile, I'll try see if my e-mail scanner and transmitter works. Haven't done this in awhile. Give me a few days to locate stuff and see what I have & we'll try a test run with whatever I can scrounge up. If that doesn't work, well... Perhaps we can get one of those disposables and take the pics, then send you the camera & let you have your way with it. Usually, it costs me about $20-$25 to buy a roll of film and have it processed locally (I don't trust mailing my film out to labs, had too many come back with the wrong pictures) depending on how many photos it produces. I will get to the others asap. Regarding Lynette DeShazo, I shouldn't have stated that she graduated from HHS, as I got married in my soph year 1951 (stupid!) and moved to California. I lived in Hutchinson from 1937 to 1951. I gather you live there now? All our relatives there are gone now, most of them buried in Eastside Cemetery. My Minner grandparents etc. Do you know anyone who will take pictures of the headstones and what it would cost? I would like to take a trip back there but my husband is too ill to travel and I don't want to leave him alone. Any info would help. Have you been in touch with a Catherine Robinson, a ggranddaughter of Gertrude Ella Minner Glass Coleman? I will forward this to her. She has her info on Ancestry.com. Now I will concentrate on the other message re: Menota. You don't know how much I appreciate this info. I think we had messages back and forth in May but I got on to other branches and k! ind of let this drop. Coralie

Surnames: Glass, Coleman, Freeman, Martin, Skinner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADE/188.50.51.576.1.1 Message Board Post: Dear Coralie: Menota's mother was the 2nd wife of Charles Orlando Glass. His 1st wife was Ora something (Martin, I think), who died at age 18 of pneumonia. I have little info on "Orlie's" 3rd wife, not even her name at this time, except that it is known that he was married a 3rd time. Ora is buried with the Glass family in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS. I think her mother was a widow and in a pretty tight financial condition. Gertrude Ella Minner had six children with Orlie. There was Chester Orlando, an infant boy buried here (Hutchinson, Eastside cemetery), Ernest Lorenzo, Menota Gertrude, Wesley Christopher, and Margie. Orlie Glass was the oldest of 7 children of John Wesley Glass and Emma Annetta Freeman. They were Charles Orlando, Lulu Anna, Welcome Edwin, Hazel Urdine, Jay Winfield, Mabelle Wanita, and Helen Esther. Helen died at 3 months of age. Lulu Anna Glass was married to Chester Ellison VanDolah Coleman. Lulu, already in poor health, died 17 May 1927 of complications of childbirth. The last two of their children were not robust enough to survive, only living for a few days after their births. Donna was born and died in March 1926, and Ronald b. 17 May and d. 18 May 1927. According to our family legends, passed down to us from Orlie's brother Welcome (my husband's grandfather), Gertie Minner Glass left her husband, Orlie, because of his drinking (he apparently had quite a problem with it), in 1927 or 1928. I don't suppose we will ever really know the truth about who left whom, unless someone left a diary. Perhaps it was mutual agreement. She married Chester E.V. Coleman, widowed by Orlie's sister's death, sometime during 1930 in Florida. Much of this info came from Coleman genealogists. I don't have any idea when Orlie remarried. Gert and Chester are buried here at Hutchinson. I can't support the claim, but unsubstantiated reports (rumors, family legends, etc.) indicated that their son Ernest Lorenzo Glass also had a sizable drinking problem, and that the son Chester Orlando Glass had very little to do with the rest of his siblings. Christopher Wesley Glass lived at Greensburg, KS with his family, and is buried there. We know next to nothing about Margie Glass, except that she is reported to have married a Larry Skinner. We don't have a lot of information on Menota Glass, either, but there's more on her than on Margie. If you are able to supplement anything I have here, or fill me in on some Minner family information, or have further questions, I would be pleased to hear from you again. Claudia

They had a daughter Lynette born about 1935 and twin sons born several years later. Lynette graduated high school in Hutchinson, and married there. Have no other info but hope to find out about Lynette. Menota's mother was my Aunt Gertrude Ella Minner Glass. Our family lore says her husband Charles Orlando left her for another woman. Hope this helps lead to more info. Thank you, Coralie Minner Schepansky.

Do you know anything else about John? Do you have the month & date of his death? What do you know about the wife that you listed in your query? If you know the entire date of death you can go to the Hutchinson Public Library online and request a newspaper copy of the obituaries. The main funeral home in town would be Johnson & Sons. There is another funeral home in town. Can't think of the name right now. Johnson and Sons is the predominant funeral home. I am originally from Hutchinson. I would appreciate knowing the dates of John & his first wife. Don't have any other information except info about Cecil, if you want that. Please feel free to email me. Carl Sprouse
