Does anyone know if there are any type of military records of veterans of World War I stored at the Reno County courthouse? For example, muster rolls, draft records, discharge records, or disability records? Thanks, Carl M. Sprouse

I would greatly appreciate a lookup for Virgil Tallant who died in Pretty Prairie, Reno County, Kansas in June 1986. He may be the Virgil Tallant, age 2, from the 1910 Kingfisher County, Oklahoma Census in the household of a John Tallant, born 1884 in Tennessee. If so, this man was a distant relative. I have been trying to find descendants of James Tallant and Rebecca Louise (Martin) Tallant for the past several years. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Surnames: McArthur - Carter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADE/1205.1.1.1 Message Board Post: According to Eastside cemetery, Elizabeth McArthur's cemetery lot was purchased along with 2 other lots on the 14th of September, 1921, the date she was buried. In 1952, Ruth Laura Carter was buried in one of the other two lots, but the 3rd one is still vacant. Elizabeth was listed as living at Pennington Farm, located on Route 3, Hutchinson, at the time of her death, and she died as a result of an accident, apparently an accident at the farm. She was 57 years old, and was born in Kentucky. No names were given for her parents at the cemetery, but it was noted they were both deceased when she died. The informant for the cemetery interment card was a woman named Roma Carter. No mention of Duncan McArthur was made. The obituary may have additional information, such as names of other family related to McArthur. The library repairs should have been completed by now, following the accident when a car rammed into the entrance.

Can you clarify the question please? The problem: None of the cemeteries in the cemetery book are segregated with just the occupants of one particular cemetery listed, unlike several other cemetery books I have seen in other locales. The Reno County Cemetery Book is set up in an alphabetical format, last name first, with listings for each name encompassing the entire county. I'm not aware of any databases that will break it down by cemetery or by first names at this time. Unless one has access to the specific records for the Abbyville cemetery, or a nearby cemetery that might have been used (which may be in the hands of the Reno County Courthouse, or may be with the Westminster Township Clerk or township maintenance supervisor), it would be difficult to go through the entire book trying to find Orval Clark __?__ at the cemetery referred to as # 31-1. Cemetery # 31-1 is located about 0.5 miles north of Abbeyville and is a well-kept place with over 250 graves. Cemetery # 31-2 is the Westminster cemetery located 1.5 miles east and 2 miles south of Abbyville, and is a neglected cemetery with 5 documented stones and an unknown number of burials.

I am married to James R. Glass Jr., grandson of Welcome E. Glass, who was a brother of Charles Orlando Glass (married to Ora Martin, Gertrude Ella Minner, and another wife), and brother of Lulu Anna Glass (married to Charles Elison Van Dolah Coleman). I married Jimmy a little over 3 years ago and have been working on his family's history. Would be interested in comparing notes on the Glass family & related lines so that I can fill in some blanks. I am so glad to hear that you had a good relationship with Mr. Coleman - I've heard VERY nice things about him. I'm not so sure you would have liked Orlie Glass quite as much as you did Mr. Coleman. Jim says his grandpa talked about Orlie having a bit of a problem with alcohol and there might have been some marital abuse when Gertrude was with him. There is quite a body of information prepared by some of the Van Dolah and Coleman relatives that I found on the internet a couple of years ago. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll see if I can locate what I printed off and help you with contacting some of that group. Claudia Glass
