Will T. -Son of William John & Nancy (Weaver) Jessee (see) -He grew up on a farm and was educated in the common schools. -In 1854, he moved to Bloomington (Douglas Co.) at the age of 16. -He was active in the Free-state cause and served under the leadership of Col. Sam Walker and John Brown. He was often sent out on errands of explorations. Because he was young and seemed "green", he avoided suspicion and was an excellent spy. -He helped storm Fort Titus and also drove the notorious McGees from their rendezvous. -When he first arrived in Lawrence, there were only sod houses and one frame building in the city. -He went with Col. Walker to Brown County to meet Jim Lane on his way to Kansas with a large group of men. He also traveled to Lecompton after Free-state men held as prisoners by the boarder ruffians, assisted by he US troops. This resulted in the delivery of the men in Lawrence as stipulated in the agreement. -Muster Roll of Capt. Samuel Walker, Co. D, 2nd Reg., 1st Brigade, KS Volunteers -This muster roll identified men who served in the Wakarusa War from Nov. 27 to Dec. 12, 1855. The 2nd Reg. was commanded by Col. C.K. Holliday and Co. D was recruited from the area around Bloomington, KS Territory. -He enlisted on 7-8-1861, in Co. K, 8th IL Infantry and took parts in the engagements at Fort Donelson, Fort Henry, Pittsburg Landing, Champion Hills, Raymond, Jackson, MI, Vicksburg and Slocumb's 6 days running fight and many skirmishes. He was discharged on 8-2-1864 with the rank of Sergeant. Civil War pension (James & Maria), Co. K, 8th IL Inf.
