All members of both were born NJ. Also, noted that John Hughs middle initial was N. So think possible that his name was John Newton and he was listed by middle name in 1850, and first name in 1860. I think this raises the odds they were the same families to about 10 to 2.5. Reason I am trying to establish that fact is the would mean in BOTH the 1850 and 1860 census there was only one Caroline Hughes (Hughs) born in NJ approx. 1849/50.
