The Burlingame Independent Osage County Thursday July 29, 1886 Destructive Fire. On Monday night last Mr. Dave MAHONEY, living northwest of Scranton, was awakened about one o'clock to find his barn burned. The family retired about 10 o'clock and how the fire started is a mystery. The barn was a large affair, with a stone foundation. The loss is total. There is an insurance upon the building of $,1000 in the State Insurance Company of Des Moines, Iowa. in addition five head of horses were burned, which are insured in the Continental for not to exceed $100 per head. Also, two wagons, lumber, hay, grain, seven set of harness, tools, etc. Mr. Mahoney estimates his loss at $2,000, on which he will probably receive $1,500 insurance money. "Dave" is one of our most energetic, pushing and successful young farmers, and everybody will sympathize with him in his loss.
