The Carbondale Independent Osage County Thursday October 11, 1883 Died, at his home, in this city, on Saturday, Oct. 6, 1883, Smith HERRON, aged 62 years. Deceased was born in Bourbon county, Kentucky, and went to Indiana with his parents when six years of age. Was married to Sarah J. IRONS in 1854, who still survives him. Came to Kansas in 1854, and settled near Lawrence on a farm. After he came to Topeka, where he engaged in the coal and afterward in the cattle business. He came to Carbondale with his family about eighteen months ago and of late has had charge of the Tremont House, when his sudden death startled the community. He had not been sick a week, and every thing was done for him that could be. He leaves a wife and five children who have lost a devoted husband and father, and his friends, a faithful friend. All sympathize with his bereaved family.
