The Carbondale Independent Osage County Wednesday January 11, 1883 The first white female born in Kansas Territory died at Auburn, Shawnee county, on Tuesday last, aged 48 years. Her names was Elizabeth CARTER, wife of John CARTER. her father was Robert SIMERWELL, a noted Baptist missionary among the Chippawas and Pottawatomies, and came to this Territory with the former tribe when the were removed from Michigan.
