    3. The Journal Free Press Wednesday August 2,1944 Mrs. Ella GREEK spent several days visiting south of town in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Amos HALL, Marcella and Earl. Mr. and Mrs. Howard SCHRADER and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. SCHRADER attended the funeral of Mrs. John SCHRADER at Olivet Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Scharder was past 74 years at the time of death. She lived in the Olivet community many years. She was an aunt of Howard Schrader and a sister-in-law to Ed Schrader. Mrs. John HARMON who has been ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jesse HAWKINS and husband, south of town, is much improved and able to be about the home. Mrs. John WALKER and Mrs. Elmer ANDERSON and Peggy visited in Barclay Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Albin SMITH and Mrs. Mort HAUSER.

Little Miss Kelena CURLEY celebrated her eighth birthday anniversary with a group of playmates at her home last Wednesday afternoon. The children had a fine time playing and partaking of delicious refreshments. Besides Kelena those present were, Mary Katherine and Kenneth TRUE of Holton; Jo Ann CASON, of Purcell, Okla., Billie COOK, Frankie and Wayne PROST, Pete and Mike NOBLE. The guests presented Kelena with some nice gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe SAHLBERG and Mr. and Mrs. Will DAVIS enjoyed supper Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert RICE. The supper was in honor of Bert's birthday anniversary, which was on Monday. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Pete LARSON and Miss Edith MOORE.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday August 15, 1965 Ray F. Lomond, 76, Is Dead in Lyndon. Lyndon.--Ray F. LOMOND, 76, died at his home here Saturday after a short illness. He was born July 13, 1889, near Lyndon and had lived in the Lyndon community all his life. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include three sisters; Mrs. Vera HARRIS, Gardena, Calif., Mrs. Mae MITCHELL, Rosemead, Calif., and Mrs. Una HUGHES, Godesberg, Germany; two brothers, Arthur RAYMOND, Lyndon, and Allan Raymond, Artesia, Calif. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Lyndon Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery. Shaffer Mortuary, Lyndon, is in charge of arrangements.     3. The Journal Free Press Wednesday August 2, 1944 Underwent Operation. Mrs. Howard SCHRADER entered the Stormont hospital, Topeka, Monday evening and underwent a major operation Tuesday morning. She is getting along as well as can be expected at this writing. Mr. Schrader is taking a vacation from his work and is assisting his two daughters, Mina Jean and Mary, to care for the home in Mrs. Schrader's absence. The many friends of the family hope for her early and complete recovery.

Mr. and Mrs. James NICOLAY and Mary Frances and Eddie were guests Sunday afternoon of James' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Nicolay and Charles.(Madison.) Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence NICOLAY and family enjoyed home made ice cream with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Nicolay, honoring Lawrence on his birthday anniversary, which occured Sunday, July 23.(Madison.) T.E. NICOLAY and C.D. IRVINE called Sunday at the August BARNETT home.(Madison.)

    3. The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday July 26, 1944 Funeral Services Held Here For Mrs. Bessie Harvey Jones. Mrs. Bessie Harvey JONES, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.C. HARVEY, born November 17, 1881 at Peterton, Kans., passed away July 20 at Parsons, Kans., at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 3 days. On January 31, 1899, she was united in marriage to Robert Edward JONES. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. John GILLARY, of Freeport, Texas and Mrs. Francis ROLLINS, of Detroit, Mich., who survive her death. Other survivors were Mollie PARRY of Peterton, Kans.; Mr. William HARVEY, also of Peterton, and Mrs. Charles Harvey, of Pittsburg, Kans., and grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Bessie Jones was preceded in death by her husband, August 4, 1905. The pall bearers were all relatives of the deceased; John Gillary and Jack Gillary, C.B. Coles, J.F. Coughlin, Thomas Harvey, and W. W. Strunk. Rev. John M. Kellison of the Presbyterian church had charge of the service. Arthur Kiesow sang and was accompanied by Katherine Prosser at the piano.

    3. The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday July 26, 1944 Lost His Life In Combat. News has been received in Osage City through Mrs. DUNCAN, of Council Grove, from the War Department saying that her brother, Pfc. Arlie J. STILL, former Bushong resident had been killed in action in Italy, June 18. He entered the service November 8, 1942. While in service he followed his trade of barbering. he trained at Camp White, Ore., and Camp Adair, Ore. He had been overseas about three months, first in North Africa and later in Italy. Private Still was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ross Still, and received his education in Osage City. When the Still family moved to Bushong, he barbered with his father for several years, and also farmed in this community. He later moved to Michigan, after which he barbered in White City. He was working in a filling station in Council Grove with his brother-in-law, Ralph DUNCAN, when called into service. He is survived by his siter, Mrs. Inez Duncan, and one nephew, Pat Duncan, both of Council Grove. The father, better known as "Buck," worked at his trade in the Ohrn Barbara Shop for many years. Arlie also worked at the barber trade here a short time. Inez taught the Kibbe school west of Osage City. The family will be remembered by many in this community.
