The Journal Free Press Wednesday September 20, 1944 Mr. and Mrs. John CAMPBELL plan to leave October 2, for San Francisco, Calif., to spend the winter in the home of their daughter, Mrs. David ANDEEN and daughter. Mr. Campbell held a public sale at their home southof town last Thursday. He reports the sale was quite satisfactory. Mr. and Mrs. Howard PLACKETT, of Kansas City, Mo., were visiting here Saturday night and Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Oscar ANDERSON and husband and other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Louis VIALLE and children were also dinner guests Sunday in the Vialle home.

Burlingame.--Services arrangements are pending at Bruce Funeral Home at Gardner for Nellie FRANKLIN, 83, Burlingame, who died Sunday at a Gardner hospital after a long illness. Miss Franklin was born at Burlingame and was a member of the Methodist Church at Burlingame.
The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday September 20, 1944 Word has been received here of the death of Miss Anna ERICKSON of Kansas City,Mo., on Tuesday, September 19. Funeral services will be held in Kansas City, Friday, and the body brought to Osage City for burial. Graveside services will be held at the Union Cemetery Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. Miss Erickson is a former Osage City girl, being a sister of the late Aaron Erickson, who operated a cleaning shop here for several years.
The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday September 20,1944 Sgt. Donald D. SMITH, infantry, of Eskridge, was one of three Kansas soldiers the War Department announced Saturday the awarding of the Silver Star. The award was as follows: Sgt. Donald D. Smith, infantry, of Eskridge, for courage and devotion to duty which contributed materially in preventing the loss of his tank in Italy. The citation states that February 11, 1944, his tank was engaged in a fire fight with the enemy at close range and he was forced to leave it temporarily when struck by fire from antitank guns. Later he returned and moved the tank to a covered position, where it was repaired and returned to service after exposing himself to enemy fire.

The Journal Free Press Wednesday September 20, 1944 Suffers Injuries. Rodney LEWIS, a high school student, of Lebo, was accidently run over by a truck last Monday and suffered some fractures and bruises. He was taken to the Security Benefit hospital in Topeka.

The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday September 13, 1944 Former Osage Woman Dies. The death of Mrs. Harry LEWIS, of Newton, occurred last Sunday, September 10. The funeral was held in Newton Tuesday afternoon and burial made there. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis lived in Osage City a number of years. Mr. Lewis operating a harness shop.

The 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Jones, which occurs on September 18, will be celebrated on Sunday, September 17, with open house from 3:30 until 5 o'clock that afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Jones extend an invitation to all their relatives and friends to call. Mr. and Mrs. Jones will be assisted by their children.

WHITE, of Overbrook, occurred Wednesday, August 16, at Olathe, Kans. Rev. H.H. Beers performed the ceremony with Mrs. Beers as a witness. Mr. White, Missouri Pacific agent at Overbrook was on his vacation and the couple spent a short honeymoon at Lake of the Ozarks, returning to Overbrook Monday. Mr. and Mrs. White are a fine friendly couple, the type that Overbrook is glad to number among its citizens.--Overbrook Citizen.

Miss Morris has been attending the summer term of school at Denver University, Denver, Colo., this summer. Miss Morris and her mother, Mrs. Amanda Morris, spent one day last week visiting in Ottawa with the Sidney MORRIS family. Miss Wanda SMITH, of Washington, D.C., is spending a short vacation at the Ira Smith home.(Miller.) The Miller grade school will open Monday with Mrs. Ralph SANDERS and Mrs. Franklin SHEPHERD as instructors.
