Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Ann GROVER, 75, who died December 30, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.A. KNIGHT, at Lebo, was held from the Lebo Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, January 2, and burial was made in the Lebo cemetery.

    3. The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday January 3, 1945 Overbrook Woman Burned to Death. Mrs. Hugh Allen Unable to Descend Stairs When Home Is Discovered in Flames. Mrs. Hugh ALLEN, of Overbrook, was burned to death sometime between 12 and 1 o'clock this Wednesday morning, when the Allen home was burned. Mr. and Mrs. Allen were sleeping in an upstairs room when the fire was discovered and Mr. Allen descended the stairs thinking Mrs. Allen would follow but for some reason she was unable to reach the stairs. Mrs. Allen was probably around 60 years old and leaves her husband, one daughter, and one son in service. The Allen family are one of the well known and highly respected families of the Overbrook community and the tragic death of Mrs. Allen casts a shadow of grief over the entire community. Mr. Allen operates a garage in Overbrook.

    3. The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday December 20, 1944 Melvern Man Dies. R.W. SMITH, of Melvern, passed away Saturday morning. He was well known by many as he had been a merchant in Melvern for many years. The funeral services were held in Melvern Monday afternoon and burial made in the Melvern cemetery.

RANDALL and daughter, Mrs. George MAXWELL, gave a dessert bridge party last Thursday afternoon at the Randall home complimenting Mrs. Ray HOGGATT, of Berkeley, Calif., who is a house guest of her sister, Mrs. V.E. UNDERWOOD. The Christmas thought was carried out in the lovely table decorations. Mrs. Jack MOORE, who left Sunday for Oakland, Calif., to remain for an indefinite time, was honored at a delightful party given by Mrs. William VIGOLA Saturday evening. The hostess served a delicious lunch at the close of a pleasant evening for all present. Mrs. Moore was presented with a nice gift.

    3. The Journal Free Press Osage County Wednesday December 6, 1944 Pfc. William C. Jones Seriously Wounded. Mrs. William O. JONES received a telegram a few days ago from the U.S. War Department advising her that her husband, Pfc. William O. JONES, was seriously wounded on November 14. He is serving with the Seventh Army and 79th Division somewhere overseas. Pfc. Jones entered the service March 15, 1943, and has been overseas since last April. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. JONES, living west of town. The friends of Mrs. Jones and his parents hope they may receive new soon stating he is on the road to recovery.
