We have old newspapers on microfilm that might help to find obits. Also, Mike Ragan, who is the sexton at Oak Hill Cemetery at Quenemo, is looking into whether Elmer Jenks actually was buried in Ola Jenks' plots. You can communicate with us off the board at: researchosagechs@embarqmail.com The obits are in the mail. Eileen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Cemetery records. The only one that may be a match is; Johnson, Gus, d.Jul 8, 1881, d. age 38yrs. Dod in 1881 is close to the 1882-83 you mention, the age 38 suggest his death may have been accidental, and July would be plausible for lightning. If so he is buried in the Union (Swedish) Cemetery north of Osage City. (Swedish and Catholic cemeteries are on the west side of the road, city cemetery is the larger one on the east side of the road.) Could not find any match for the three Peterson names; Christina, Anna, or August in any of the Osage City cemeteries. When I get the chance to go up there - maybe next year if there's time - I'll have to see about looking up Oak Hill cemetery to see where it is and see whether or not Elmer Jenks had a marker of some kind. I've also been meaning to spend a day looking for the grave of my great-grandfather's mother (Christina Lisa Pettersson / Peterson, nee Svensdotter, divorced from Johan August Lundberg prior to emigration). She's up at the cemetery north of Osage City. She died after January 1886, the last date we found in the court records after August married Anna, when August needed the court's permission to assume legal guardianship of the 5 Johnson children and sell the Johnson homestead land. We tried to find Christina once before - spent hours at the cemetery on the east side of the highway... and about when we ran out of time and daylight, we decided she must be in the section across the road on the west side. The grave of my great-grandmother's first husband (Johann Gustaf Johansson / Johnson) is also somewhere around Osage City. He was apparently struck by lightning around 1882-1883. My great-grandmother was Anna Cajsa M. (nee Carlsdotter) and there were 5 children from the first marriage to Johnson, and a daughter (b. 15 Sept 1885) from the second marriage to August Pettersson / Peterson, who was a step-brother or half-brother of Gust Johnson. August Peterson showed up in 3 locations around Osage county on the 1880 census, one of which was at the home of Gust and Anna Johnson and family. We at Osage County Historical Society have two obits for Dr E E Jenks from the Quenemo and Lyndon newspapers, one of which has a poor photo. Both obits say he was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quenemo, however, the graves are not listed in most Oak Hill Cemetery records. On one older record, a deed is listed in the name of "Ola Janks" (Viola Jenks?), however, no burial is recorded. We can send copies of the obits however, we do require a fee. Please let us know if we can help further. Eileen Davis Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
