The Enterprise-Chronicle Osage County Thursday February 8, 1940 Services Are Held For Arthur Lewis. The death of Arthur LEWIS, 65, occurred at the county home on Friday night, February 2. Mr. Lewis had been at the home only since last December 3rd. He was a brother of the late Jack Lewis and had lived in and about Burlingame for the past several years. At one time he and John HILLMAN operated a draying business here. Mr. Lewis who had been in failing health for some time, appeared as usual Friday evening and listened to the radio until after 10 o'clock. Death came, unexpectedly as he slept. Funeral services were held in the McElfresh Mortuary at Osage City on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. O. Harbour of the Methodist church and burial was made in the family burial plot in the Osage City cemetery.
The Enterprise-Chronicle Osage County Thursday January 25, 1940 Burial Services Here. Burial services for Orville DAVIS, 51, were held in the Burlingame cemetery Saturday afternoon, January 20, Rev. E. C. Wolters officiating. The deceased resided at Reading and his death, the result of a fall, occurred in an Emporia hospital on January 18. He was a son of John and Anna Herman Davis who lived in the Havana neighborhood many years ago. His grandfather, Levi Davis operated the old Parmiter mill at Havana in an early day.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday December 16, 1965 Ex-Resident Is Dead at 77; Rites Pending. Lyndon.--Mrs. Florence ATHON, 77, formerly of Topeka, died Wednesday morning in a rest home. She was born Dec. 18, 1887, in Quenemo, Kan., and had lived in Topeka for 15 years before entering the rest home. Survivors include two sons, Cloyce L. ATHON, Marysville, and John R. ATHON, Overbrook; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice PURDY, 3345 California, Topeka; 12 granddchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sister, Mrs. Lucille BROOKS, Michigan Valley, and Mrs. Lora LEONARD, Quenomo; and a brother, William DAVIDSON, Quenomo. Services will be announced by the Baker Funeral Home, Overbrook.

The Enterprise-Chronicle Osage County Thursday January 11, 1940 Another Farm Home Destroyed By Fire. The farm home of Mrs. J.F. CANN, located one mile east of Superior school and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Carl REICK, was totally destroyed by fire early Saturday evening, January 6. The fire was first discovered in the second story about 6:30 o'clock and is thought to have originated in a defective flue. Finding themselves unable to extinguish the flames the neighbors assisted in the removal of the furniture, most of which was saved. The loss of the house was partially covered by insurance. Mr. and Mrs. Reick had lived on the place for more than a year. They are now staying in the home of her father, Joe GABLER, in Burlingame.
The Enterprise-Chronicle Osage County Thursday January 11, 1940 Services Are Held For Mrs. O.F. Young. Graveside services for Mrs. O.F. YOUNG, 82, were held at the family burial plot in the Burlingame cemetery on Saturday, January 6, following the arrival of Santa Fe train No. 3 from Chicago at twelve o'clock noon, Rev. C.E. Wolters, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiated. Mrs. Young was the widow of O.F. Young, who, almost fifty years ago, came to Burlingame from Osage City and operated a photograph gallery on the second floor of the Pratt building. For several years the family resided here and held high social and civic connections. Mr. Young moved his family to Oak Park, Chicago, about 1895 where he continued in the photography business for many years and where they have continued to reside. She was a sister of the late F.J. Williams and had made frequent visits to relatvies and friends in Burlingame. Her death occurred at her home, 112 Wesley, Oak Park, on Tuesday evening, January 2, following a stroke which came upon her the afternoon of New Year's Day. Nancy Jane Williams was born in Shelby county, Illinois, October 14, 1857. Her marriage to Obediah F. Young, occurred in 1879. To this union was born two sons. Clyde, a veteran of The Spanish-American War, died December 29, 1926 and his body was brought here for burial. There survived, one son, Paul Young, Chicago; a grandson, William Young, aged 10, and a niece, Mrs. Thomas H. Walton of Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services were held at the Drescler Funeral Home in Chicago at 3 p.m., January 5, conducted by Dr. Ward, pastor of the First Presbyterian church and of which church Mrs. Young was a member. Among those who attended the services were fellow-members of a ladies club, the Borrowed Time Club, all past 70 years of age. Among those who came to Burlingame Sunday were the son, Paul Young, Mrs. T.H. Walton, who had been called to Chicago, Dr. T. H. Walton, and daughter, Mrs. Nadine Scott, of Kansas City.
The Enterprise-Chronicle Osage County Thursday January 4, 1940 Henderson--Anstaett. The marriage of Miss Betty HENDERSON of this city to Mr. Kenneth ANSTAETT of Osage City was solemnized by Rev. Smith the Presbyterian minister at Yates Center, on December 1. The bride is the only daughter of Mrs. Anna Henderson, who is at present employed in Topeka. Betty attended the Topeka high school until the Christmas holidays when her marriage was announced. Mr. Anstaett is a young miner by occupation and the young couple will reside in Osage City. the good wishes of many among the younger set are extended.

Mrs. McFarlane's ome is in Mulberry, Kans., where she is employed as a teacher in one of the schools there. Mr. McFarlane is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McFarlane of this city. He has been engaged recently in civil engineering work in South Dakota. After spending Christmas with home folks, Mr. and Mrs. McFarlane left Friday night and will resume their work again. The hearty good wishes of many friends attend them.

A marriage of interest to acquaintances in this community is that of Miss Gladys DORMAN to Mr. Joseph DIEHL, both of Alma, which took place Wednesday afternoon, November 29, at three o'clock, in the chancel of the First Presbyterian church in Topeka. Dr. Roy Zimmer, pastor of the church officiating. They were attended by Mrs. Fred Smith, sister of the bride, and Mr. Smith, and by Miss Viola Diehl, sister of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Diehl will make their home in Alma where Mr. Diehl is in business.
