His first wife Myrtle STORM Gifford died in 1914 and he married Matilda aka Tillie in about 1915. In the 1930 census Matilda says she is from Virginia. However, you have to order it from the State. You can find more information at http://www.kdheks.gov/vital/death.html and the cost is $15. Does anyone know if parents are listed on the death cert in Osage county? If so, if anyone is going to the courthouse, would a lookup be possible? Jacob died 8-25-1911 and I am hoping the death cert will give his dob and his parent's names. If someone is going to the courthouse and wouldn't mind looking for me, I will certainly appreciate it. Thank you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Mercy is in 1850 census in Rock, Union, page 5 living with another family. Richard is with John and Julia in 1850 and then there is a Richard and Jacob in 1860 and Mary disappears. And yes, John was around 20 years older if 1801 is the correct date. Julia was a daughter of Uri Martin and Rebecca Squire and they were married in Morgan county, OH in 1820. Julia's death cert in WA state in 1907 gives the names of her parents. I think Julia was born in 1822. I have been in contact with a Martin descendant and she has been looking for Uri for years. She didn't know about Julia either. So, I think that John and 1st wife were in OH and had kids, possibly she dies and John marries Julia. But I can't find anything anywhere. Findagrave has a Richard M Proctor in Barron, WI with an obit but it is very confusing. Not sure if the facts have been meshed with one or more people. Thanks for the input and laying it out the way you did as that helped me also. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: mickmickel Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.osage/591.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Nothing conclusive here, but some observations you may want to investigate; In the 1960 census we find Jacob Proctor b. 1836, Indiana, right age, wrong state - is he yours? (Don't know why age and birth location errors occur so frequently in the census but they do.) This Jacob is living with the Patchin families as a farm laborer with a Richard Proctor, a. 22 also born Indiana. Suggesting these two young men are likely related; brothers, cousins? Going to 1850 census, still don't find Jacob but do find a Richard, b. 1838 OH; son of John, 44 VA, and Julia, 26 OH, Proctor. There are two things notable, John is much older than Julia and she obviously married and had first child at a young age. How young? As we look at later census we see that Julia's birth year gets progressively earlier. By 1880 she is indicated as being 60, i.e. b. 1820. John at this point is 79, i.e. 19 years older than Julia. So could Jacob be their child, born when his mother was 16? (If we believe the 1850 data Julia would have been 14 when Richard was born.) If we look at 1880 and 1900 census years Jacob lists his father and mother both born VA. That matches to John but not Julia. So I advance the theory that Jacob and Richard were step brothers. John was their father, and Jacob was born to a first wife in Ohio. After Jacob's mother died John married Julia in Ohio before moving to Wisconsin, and they had a large family (8 ) Richard being the oldest. Of course, it's also possible that Jacob could have been John's nephew. Were these Proctor boys in the 1860 census really born Indiana or Ohio? Looking at 1870 and 1880, I can not find a Jacob or Richard Proctor b. Indiana with the correct birth years. So, I conclude they probably gave the wrong birth state in 1860. And, why can't Jacob be found in 1850? A guess is he at age 14 was already working as a farm laborer instead of living with his father and step-mother, and his name was either misspelled, or he was inadvertently indexed under the surname of the household he was living in at the time. Or, just missed. Eldon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
