Evan Lewis Evans, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Thoms Evans, was born at Palmyra, Ohio, December 19, 1857. He came to Kansas with his parents when a child of eight years. They settled on a farm on Dragoon creek west of Burlingame in the pioneer days of Osage county. He grew to manhood here when the country was new and the life hard. Most of his life was spent in Osage county, where he engaged in coal mining and farming. Being broken in heath he has spent most of the last 15 years in Topeka. "Sport," as he was familairly known around here, will be remembered for many things, among them honesty, courage and a man of his word. Those who were his friends will remember him as a man they respected and admired, and will understand when it is said that "Sport" was his own worst enemy. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. J.E. George of this city, and one brother, Ben Evans of Wichita, both of whom were present for the funeral service.
