The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday December 9, 1965 Mrs. York, 82, Dies at Lyndon; Rites Monday. Lyndon.--Mrs. Sophia YORK, 82, died Saturday at her home here after a long illness. She as born Dec. 30, 1882 at Lawrence and had lived at Lyndon 20 years. Earlier she lived in Scranton where she helped operate a produce and feed store. She was a member of the Presbyterian Ladies' Aid and the Garden Club, both at Lyndon. She was married to Thomas P. YORK, Feb. 11, 1904 at Lawrence. He died June 21, 1954. Two daughters also preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Carrie York, of the home, and Mrs. Gladys HANSEN, Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Marie NEWTON, Colfax, Wash.; a brother, Fred SCHNEIDER, Spokane, Wash.; a grandson and a great granddaughter. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Presbyterian Church at Lyndon. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery. Shaffer Mortuary at Lyndon is in charge of arrangements.

The Melvern Review Thursday March 11, 1920 Ben IREY and Frank KELSEY drove to Topeka Wednesday. They got off the road coming home and in some way tipped the car over injuring Kelsey severely. The car was considerably damaged but Mr. Irey escaped without a bruise. A.A. THRUSH brought the wreck and wreckage to town. Same Newspaper. March 18, 1920 We reported the Irey-Kelsey accident as the doctor gave it to us. Ben said to the editor,"You said I didn't get a bruise, Great Heavens look at that leg."
The Melvern Review Thursday March 11, 1920 I.J. RICE and wife moved onto the farm about the first. Mrs. Rice subscribed for the Review to come on that route. Miss Donnie DOOTY came in from Kansas City for a little stay with home folks.

The Melvern Review Thursday February 26, 1920 A farewell surprise. The friends and neighbors of Aaron MOORE executed a nice surprise on the family Monday night. Mr. Moore has rented the home place to his son-in-law Ernest SHIRLEY and is preparing to move to Idaho, so the neighbors stormed the premesis, re-Charivaried the newly married couple again and spent the remainder of the evening in having a jolly good time, and in bidding Mr. Moore and family good-bye recalled happy days gone bye and wished them happiness and prosperity in their new western home.

The Melvern Review Osage County Thursday February 12, 1920 Mrs. A.A. Numbers. Mary Belle, daughter of Alexander and Ruth A. HENDERSON was born near Iberia, Morrow County, Ohio, June 3, 1858, and died at her home in Melvern February 10, 1920. On April 3, 1879 she was united in marriage to Arthur A. NUMBERS. To this union were born nine children, Eva M., Arthur R., William H., Harry B., Josephine R., Hazel A., all of whom are living at home except Josephine R., who lives in Melvern and the three oldest boys who live in Kansas City, Kansas. After her marriage, Mrs. Numbers moved to Paola, Kansas in 1882. In 1893 the family came to Melvern where they have since resided. In early childhood Mrs. Numbers united in the Christian church, to which faith she has always remained faithful and true. She was devoted to her family, a hard-working woman, a devoted wife and mother. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband and the children already mentioned, four grandchildren, Josephine and Donald Elmore of Melvern, Retta B. Numbers daughter of Harry B., and Wayne H. Numbers, son of William H., of Kansas City. Her industrious and useful life has left its impression for good upon us all. if earth has lost her we feel that Heaven has gained.
The Melvern Review Thursday February 5, 1920 A letter from Toodles DOOTY at Minneapolis, Kansas, states that the schools have closed and some of the teachers have volunteered as nurses. The American Legion has been drafted as wood choppers, medicine carriers and soup jockeys.

Pvt. J.M. DOOTY, Q.M.C., at Fort Apache, Ariz., is carrying mail to his company by stage 40 miles every day. He reads the Melvern Review.
The Melvern Review Thursday January 8, 1920 Sunday was Mrs. Jno. MOORE's birthday and about seventy-five friends and neighbors surprised her in the evening, which was spent in playing parlor games and social converse. Refreshments of fruit salad and cake were served at a late hour, all departed after wishing Mrs. Moore many more happy birthdays. There were two watch parties in the neighborhood last Wednesday evening. Several of the young folks met at the home of E.E. CRAWFORD and the J.O.C. Class met at Lon FELTNER's. (Richview.)

The Melvern Review Thursday January 8, 1920 Mrs. C.E. SMITH of Waverly, has returned home after a two weeks' visit with her daughter, Mrs. Minnie PURSLEY, at the Commerical. Miss Althea F. DOOTY left Sunday morning, after a two week's vacation, to finish her school at Minneapolis, Kansas. Since John D. has placed an endowment fund of several million dollar for the benefit of the faithful, superannuated professors, 'Toodles' may elect to cling to the pedogogic profession.
The Melvern Review Saturday January 3, 1920 Miss Aletha DOOTY entertained with a Watch Party New Year's Eve at her home with Mr. and Mrs. John LIVINGSTON on South Main Street. Their comfortable big living room furnished a fine meeting place for watching out the Old Year, and the evening was a very enjoyable one. Besides the home party those present included, Everett PORTER, George HALLAM, and Misses Lela PETTY, Dorothy NOBLITT, Dee CRAIG, Aline STEPHENS, and the writer.
