THis will be sad news to Tom's many friends here, where he was so well known, and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to the sorrowing and bereaved family. The interment will be in the family burying ground at St. Joseph, Mo.

The County Courier Osage County Carbondale Thursday August 11, 1883 Uncle Billy YOUNG had a very narrow escape from being run over by the cars at the crossing near the depot last Thursday about noon. He had crossed the switch track going home, and stepped upon the main track to watch an engine that was on the side track coupling some cars, when the passenger from the east almost ran him down. A brakeman on the freight train took in the situation and got to him just in time to push him off. Uncle Billy is hard of hearing and near ?? years of age, which was the cause of his apparent carelessness. It was a very lucky escape. (Note: age is unreadable.)

Mr.a nd Mrs. Bartlett are among Carbondale's oldest residents, and their friends are legion, who wil congratulate them on their long and happy wedded life, wishing them many more years of happiness and prosperity. Mr. Barlett made his wife a present, of a new broom; the following is part of his presentation speech: :Dear wife, I present this broom as an embem of your thrift and industry, and hope that it will as lasting, as our long and peaceful marriage relation."

She was an old, and respected citizen of Junction. A large assemblage of friends listened to the funeral sermon preached by Rev. J.M. Ashley, of Carbondale.

    3. The Carbondale Journal Thursday July 17, 1879 HOCKEUBER is plastering DICKINSHEETS new house. Mr. Fred DICKENSHEETS, of the Sidny, (O.) Journal, called on us Monday. Mr. John ELLIS had a fall in his granary last Saturday. He was considerably hurt, but is able to be on the streets again this week. The house of Mr. McClure, just north of town, was struck by lightning last night. Mrs. McClure was knocked dow and her husband was stunned. A dog belonging to the family was killed. No serious damage was done.

The Carbondale Independent Osage County Thursday December 6, 1883 Died, in this city, on Wednesday, November 28, 1883, Edgar, youngest son of James and Pluma DICKINSHEETS, aged three years, three months and eight days. The little fellow was sick but a few days and was not considered to be in danger until a day or two before his death, when he commenced failing, and although everything was done for him that could be, he died on the day above mentioned. Mr. Dickinsheets had been telegraphed for, but word did not reach him until Friday when he was on his way home, and was a terrible blow to hom. The funeral took place from the house on Sunday morning, and was largely attended, a large concourse going to the cemetery at Wakarusa where the body was interred. The sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved parents, in this their sad bereavement.

The presents were both numerous and appropriate. Mr. and Mrs. Knight will shortly moved to Wabaunsee county where they will in future reside. The well wishes of the Independent goes with them.

    3. The Carbondale Independent Thursday November 27, 1883 Jas. DICKENSHEETS is now putting in his fourth forge, which will make his shop second to none in the State. Mr. F.A. YOUNG, formerly of Bradford, Ills., now of Fontinel, Iowa, is visiting old friends in Carbondale and vicinity. A tailor in the employ of Mr. WENING decamped on last Saturday night with some sixty dollars of other people's money. W.A.R. WHITE informs us that the rotary force pump of which he has the agency, takes like wild fire everywhere. It would be well for those who contemplate buying a pump to call on Mr. White and see it work. A house was picked up and moved through town one day last week without even disturbing the preparations for dinner.
