The Osage County Courier Friday October 6, 1893 Tom MILLER is to take charge of the Overbrook post office October 1st, and Miss May MARSHALL, as assistant p.m., will have charge most of the time. Mr. Miller is having an entirely new office outfuit made, which promises to be complete and convenient. Just where the office will be located has not yet been decided. (Overbrook.) Thursday of last week during the storm, lightning struck the corner of L.F. KARNES house, knocking splinters in all directions. The family was in the house at the time, but no one was hurt. The Osage County Courier Thursday September 15, 1893 Messrs J.A. PETERSON and Robert ALBACH started for the Cherokee Strip last Monday. (Fairfax.) Last Sunday Morning, about 10 o'clock, the residence property of Mr. George McCULLOUGH was destroyed by fire. How the fire originated is not known, as there was on one in the house when the fire started; nothing could be saved. This is a great loss to Mr. McCullough, as there was but $500 insurance on the building and contents.(Fairfax.) Miss May PEARL spent last Monday with Miss Belle STEWART.(Wakarusa.) Miss Maggie STEWART will leave tomorrow for Topeka, where she will attend school this winter.

The County Courier Thursday September 8, 1893 Ed. ELLIS and family, who have been visiting in Iowa the past three weeks, returned Tuesday. Mr. Ellis says the corn in Iowa, at least two thirds of the state, is about like it is here. Mr. Chas. VAWTER has a girl at their house about two weeks old, and Chas is as happy as a "clam at high tide." (Wakarusa.) J.T. SNYDER is putting up a fine lot of hay on his farm east of A.M. WILLIAMS. By-the-way there is a big hay crop in this vicinity, and the weather has been all that could be desired to put up. (Wakarusa.) James STEWART, who has been on the sick list, is able to set up once more. (Wakarusa.) Mr. John SNYDER has built a new coal house in Wakaursa, and is now in good shape to handle coal. Mr. M. ROCKEY and wife is here visiting Mrs. R.'s parents, Mr. and Mrs. James DUNCAN. (Wakarusa.)

Call and see him before purchasing of others. Mrs. L.D. KING returned home last Sunday, having been away since last May, attending the Normal at Emporia. She is one of our most successful teachers, and has returned to assume her old position when school commences, which will be a week from next Monday. Mrs. STEWART and daugher, Miss Belle, wife of James Stewart, one of the most propersous and influential famers and stock dealers on the Wakarusa, started yesterday for a visit to the Worlds Fair. Mr. S. informed us that he and his son returned from a ten days trip to the fair about two week ago. We with them a pleasant trip and a safe return.

MILLS, living on the Dragoon, started for the strip yesterday. Misses Mabel and Bertha ELLIS spent from last Saturday until Wednesday of this week in Topeka the guests of friends. Miss Ruby HARMAN started on Wednesday for a months visit with relatives and friends in Topeka, Lawrence, and Kansas City, Mo. She expects to attend the St. Joe fair, and from there to Mound City, Mo., before her return.

DUTTOn and Miss Carrie HEDERSTROM, Rev. A.W. Lawrence officiating. The contracting parties are among Burlingame's most popular young people. Mr Dutton is one of the leading business men of that city, and is at the head of the firm of L.A. Dutton & Co. His wife is highly respected, and has been a most successful teacher in the Burlingame public schools for a number of years. He had crossed the switch track going home, and stepped upon the main track to watch an engine that was on the side track coupling some cars, when the passenger from the east almost ran him down. A brakeman on the freight train took in the situation and got to him just in time to push him off. Uncle Billy is hard of hearing and near ?? years of age, which was the cause of his apparent carelessness. It was a very lucky escape. (Note: age is unreadable.)
