Mr. White, with his wife and great-granddaughter, were traveling in a covered wagon and were on thei rway from Chetopa, Kansas, to their home in Iowa. They had stopped in town for dinner and had but nicely started on the road when something broke about the harness. Mrs. White got out to fix it and he remarked that he was feeling much better than he had been, but as she got back into the wagon again he was gasping for his last breath and died. The remains were brought back to town. From Mrs. White it was learned that he was treasurer of the Masonic lodge in Des Moines, Iowa. The fraternity of this place immediately took charge and completed all arrangements. An escort accompanied the remains of the deceased to the depot and they were shipped on the 3 o'clock a.m. train. C.W. WOOD accompanied them as far as Kansas City, so that the bereaved widow would not be alone in making the change of cars. Mr. White was 68 years old, well to do. The rents from his property in Des Moines would have enabled him to live in luxury at home, but he enjoyed these jaunts through the country and took them for the benefit of his health.
