    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: mickmickel Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.osage/574.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Kerri, Additonal to my last post; I checked the birth locations of the members of the Hughes family in the 1850 census (Cornelius and Eliza 7) and the Hughs family (Eliza 3) in the 1860 census. All members of both were born NJ. Also, noted that John Hughs middle initial was N. So think possible that his name was John Newton and he was listed by middle name in 1850, and first name in 1860. I think this raises the odds they were the same families to about 10 to 2.5. Reason I am trying to establish that fact is the would mean in BOTH the 1850 and 1860 census there was only one Caroline Hughes (Hughs) born in NJ approx. 1849/50. And her farther and mother were Cornelius and Eliza. Best, Eldon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: mickmickel Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.osage/574.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Kerri, Tried to find info on Caroline Hughes family/parents in NJ. But results were inconclusive. 1850 US census - Search for Moses Hughes in NJ. Found one with wife Caroline, and two daughters Johannah a. 3 and Elsy a. 1 all born NJ. I found one Caroline Hughes born NJ approx. 1849 timeframe. However, she was listed as age 2 mo. on a sheet enumerated in Aug 1850. So that could put her born in late May, but in 1850 not 1849 as reported in later census. This family consisted of Cornelius and wife Eliza and seven children, with Caroline being the youngest. They were located in Newark, NJ. 1860 US census - Couldn't find any trace of the Moses Hughes family! Found a Eliza Hughs (sic) as head of a family in Newark NJ, having a Caroline a. 10 born NJ. However, the age of Eliza did not match the 1850 census. There was a William listed with an age match to William Hughes in the 1850 census, there was a John in this family while there was no John in the 1850 family. A son Newton from 1850 was missing but approx. same age as the John in the 1860 census. So it is not clear if this is the same family; Odds are about 5 to 3. Curious if you know where your gggrandmother Carrie Volk was married? Reason I ask is, I do a lot of marriage lookups in Osage Co. court records. I often don't find them and wonder if there were favorite travel destinations for folks in Osage Co. to be married. So looking for another sample to try to establish if there may be a pattern as to where I should look next when I don't find Osage Co. folks in Osage Co. marriage records. Glad the earlier data was useful, and sorry nothing conclusive on Caroline Hughes in NJ. Eldon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is my family. I agree that Carry, Cassie and Carrie are the same person, she is my great, great grandmother. I think Willa May would have been the daughter of William and Statia and died when she was just a little girl. I did not have a marriage date for William and Statia, thank you for that information. Having all of this information in one place is wonderful, thank you again. This is very helpful. Have a great day, Kerri Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Andrew Walter Parker was there, he wrote, until 1868 so maybe he married Olive Belle G? there then went to Osage Co. for the homestead land the government was giving to all the war vets.
