The Carbondale Independent Osage County Thursday February 15, 1883 A Narrow Escape. R.H. McCLAIR, our commissioner while returning Tuesday evening from a meeting of the board at Lyndon, at the branch near Dan PHELAN's place he found the stream very high and swift, from the rain that was falling, and in his attempt to cross, the horse and buggy was lifted and carried by the current into and through the barb wire fence on the south, the horse becoming entangled with the fence, and forced under water. Mr. McClair in eminent danger of his own life, cut the harness loose from both horse and wagon, and after several desperate efforts, succeeded in reaching a solid foundation, but not until he had been in the water to his neck for nearly half an hour, glad enough to get out even in the plight he was. Fred JENNESS, enroute to Lyndon, drove up while Mac. was in the water, and concluded he did not want to venture, turned around and brought hime home. Mac. was in his wet clothes nearly three hours, but it is hoped nothing serious will result from the exposure.

James and Jane were married 12 Feb 1867 in Greene County, Illinois. In the 1870 census, they were living in Montgomery County, Illinois. By 1880, they were living in Agency, Osage County. They have the following children (according to the census): Roswell, age 11 Rosa, age 10 (she died 11 Oct 1888) William L, 7 James F., 5 Mary A., 2 George O., 1 In the 1900 census also in Agency, Osage County, Jane is head of house James, 24, son Nettie, 16, dau In the 1910 census, Jane is living with her daughter Nettie Erlandson, age 26. They are living in Leavenworth Ward 1, Leavenworth County. In the 1920 census, Jane is still living with her daughter and son-in-law and grandchild in Leavenworth Ward 4. James Henry died in 1884 and Jane died in 1929. They are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quenemo. Also on the stone is Rosa (who died in 1888), George Oscar (who died in 1880) and Lawrence (1881-1881) and Jane's mother, Sarah Halbert, is also listed. Roswell married a Maggie ? according to the censuses. William Lee (went by Lee) married Frances Maude Gardner around 1899. James F married a Katherine ??? Nettie married Fred Erlandson. According to the 1900 census, Jane was the mother of 10 children with 5 living. From the census records, they would be Roswell, William, James, Nettie and ??? I am thinking Mary A. since I have documentation on Rosa, George Oscar, Orson, Lawrence and an unnamed child (which isn't documented) are deceased by 1900. I am looking for obituaries for the following people: James Henry Thomasson, 12 Feb 1884 Jane Halbert Thomasson, 24 Jun 1929 Rosa Lena Thomasson, 11 Oct 1880 George Oscar, 14 Jul 1880 Orson, 24 Mar 1879 (twin to George Oscar) Lawrence, 10 Oct 1881 I understand some/most of those obituaries will not be available but just wanted to put them out there just in case. Also William Lee Thomasson and his wife, Maude, moved to Edwards County, Kansas (Kingsley area). She supposedly died 29 Nov 1974 in Kingsley. Still looking for William Lee's death date. An obit for her (as I think she would have one listed in Osage area) would be great. Thanks in advance for any help anyone could give me on the obituaries and possibly any information on Mary Thomasson, the missing adult child.
