The only Garner I'm finding is J. E. Garner who started the Almena Star newspaper with George W. Shook. After 6 months, Shook bought out Garner. [according to the Lockard, "The History of the Early Settlement of Norton County, Kansas"] The Star was published from about 12/17/1885--2/8/1889 - at least those are the dates available on microfilm. Seventy Years in Norton County, KS by D. N. Bowers says that the Star was started in 1885 by E. J. Garner and George Shook. Garner is now [1942] in Wichita, owner and editor of Publicity. In the spring of 1888, Dr. W. H. Taylor started the Palindealer. The Star was sold to a man named Munday who soon sold it to the Plaindealer. In 1889 Garner returned and started the Almena Advance. When the Farmers Alliance came into existence in 1894 he changed the name to the Farmers Advance and moved the plant to Norton where it became the organ of the Populist party. > Looking for residence and place of death of John T.
