Billingsville was established as a post office on 10 June 1872 and discontinued 28 Oct 1872. The first postmaster was Nathan H. Billings. Billingsville was located approximately 3 miles east of Norton; on the NE 40 of the SW 1/4 Sec 3, Twp 3 S, Range 23 W. Billingsville was little more than a "paper town" established by Nathan Billings, who was involved in creating and presenting fradulent petitions and documents to the governor in the process of county organization. It was temporarily designated as the county seat by Governor James M. Harvey, but the first county commissioners held an election, and Norton was declared the permanent county seat with 38 votes.
