Yes, you will find conflicts between Bowers and Lockard (spelled Lockard, pronounced as Lockhart). Keep in mind that Lockard's book was originally published in 1894; while Bowers' book was not published until 1942. Lockard has info on much earlier families and events, while Bowers concentrates more on the history of town organization, education, churches, etc. Lockard provides much more narrative about individuals (and sometimes even gossip), while Bowers focuses more on organizations, and has less info about individuals. Also keep in mind that while these books are valuable for finding clues, and adding flesh to the bones of your long gone families, they are still only derivative sources, i.e. "Lockard/Bowers says that my great grandfather did thus and so". We still need to look at original, at the time of the event records for confirmation. Judith Bivens wrote: > > Apparantly there must have been some conflict there between Bowers and > Lockhart.
