Hi Jim, I suspect that the Michaels you mentioned as being in Jefferson County are not "my" Michals -- that "e" makes the difference. The original Michals emigrant came to the New World in the mid-1850's, settling in east central Illinois. The family migrated west after the Civil War, settling briefly from time to time elsewhere before arriving in the Devises district of northwest Norton County, by 1884. The emigrant clearly came from Germany, location yet unknown, and to this day I do not know what his name might have been prior to emigration -- there was a name change when he walked off the boat! Thanks for writing. Chuck Mallette, Houston, Texas. from Norton Daily Telegram, 07 Sep 2000 A new notebook about the Devizes Cemetery has been placed in the files at the Register of Deeds office in the Norton County Courthouse. Wayne L. Plucheck, Sr. of Littleton, Colo. has redone the Devizes Cemetery records of those buried and those who own plots in the cemetery. Genealogy buffs will like the computer format. I don't have either a mailing address or email address for Mr. Plucheck - anyone out there know him?
