Apparantly there must have been some conflict there between Bowers and Lockhart. Ornocque and Edmund being almost like being in another Country would be now. My mom said it used to take grandpa and grandma 2 days to go to Norton and they only lived 12 miles east and 4 1/2 South of Norton. So it is understandable to me that they aren't in oboth books but to confusing to some I guess. Ornocque was 9 miles west on 36 and Edmund was 14 miles south and 2 miles east of Norton. HI Ken Yes there is a Herby and Clarence Norton Shaw in the book. There is a whole long paragraph about them. Clarence Norton Shaw was born at a place called Devises and was the first child born in Norton Co. That is the reason for his middle name. They are listed as going elsewhere both of them. If you would like more information or if you would like the book itself, it is for sale on Ebay or I purchased mine whene I found out my ancesters were in it from the NOrton Daily Telegram who sold it to me in 1976 for $9.95 plus plstage. HI all. This is in answer to a Doolittle or Spurling inquiry. There is no Doolittle or Spurling in Lockharts book. However, a lot of the people in Norton County came from Nebraska or from other countys even. Those counties are small. A lot of my relatives were mostly kept track of through Phillips county and Decatur County yet their land was from Norton Co. The whole bunch of them. The name doolittle is familiar to me in later years but evidently not in the earliet times. There is no Klentz or gay. However there is a Moorman, A S page 243. You may be interested in this book. It says as follows: Andrew S. Moorman was born at Columbus, Ohio , Feb. 28. 2844, He moved to Washington County when he was 8 years old. He enlisted in the 7th Iowa infantry , company H, July 15, 1861, and went with Sherman to the sea. He was in the battles of Corinth, Pittsburg Landing, Fort Donaldson, Lay's Ferry, Atlanta. Savanah, and Kenesaw. He was mustered out July 12, 1865. He was married to Naoma L. Moore at Washington, Iowa, december 24, 1866. He came to Kansas in the Spring of 1879 and located in Garfield township. They have 5 children. L Bertrand, James M, Minnie E, Willie E and Carl C. Minnie was married to L B doolittle January 30, 1891. L Moorman the eldest son taught school for several years and was for a time traveling salesman for a St Louis house. Hi Judy and list, I have D. N. Bowers book, "Seventy Years in Norton County, Kansas, 1872-1942" along with an index published by the Norton County Genealogy Society. No Schessers or Gunthers are listed in that index. Twice since I started checking ebay, there have been copies of the Bowers book for sale. Each time it sold for 60 or 65 dollars. There are currently two copies for sale at www.abebooks.com. One is $75 and one is $125, plus postage. Experts tell us we should be very careful purchasing items online and make sure we deal with reputable companies. Tonight I heard that you should always use a credit card for online purchases, not a money order, as the credit card company can provide more leverage if you have difficulties with a purchase. I have never had any problems purchasing books on ebay or other online booksellers, but I have heard horror stories about online purchases from other people and in the news. So be careful if you decide to purchase online, OK?
