I am looking for information on how to open adoption papers of my grandmother who has long since passed away. Does anyone have any information on this? My grandmother, Lillie Esther Gamble, was born in Norton, Norton Co. KS.(we think per her SSI application every thing else says Arkansas) in 1889 and was adopted about age 3 we think by Elias and Elizabeth Gamble. We think her birth mother may have been named Jenny Sprung per schoolyard bully's taunt. There are Sprung's in Norton Co. Would appreciate any information. Darn, what I would not give to be able to turn back time and save the 1890 census from destruction, that would have been my saving document. Kathy Busby California

Blue - the Blue family came to Norton county in the late 1870's, I believe [I'm away from home and all my books & notes] and settled somewhere in the NE corner of the county. Only one chapter in this book deals with Norton County, and the info in that chapter is very general. It is written in story form, and has less genealogical/historical information than I would have liked. However, if you are descended from the Blue family, this would be a good read. Good luck, Ardie

well, you are very very wrong. John Grant was not part Indian. He was my Greatgrandfather through Inez (Ina) Heacock. He then married a woman named Graham from IL. My grandmother never particularly liked her but I would have been told if she were Indian. Lord, they all had blue eyes and were Irish. John's mother was totally Irish as was his father. I am totally confused by all you say here. Where did you get all of that? Please do not reply to this message on the list. If you want further info please contact me at agrimes@inetnebr.com There are a couple of viruses running rampant that I wanted to warn you all about. First of all, you CANNOT be infected with a virus through a Rootsweb mailing list message. Most viruses are transmitted through attachments, and the Rootsweb server strips off all attachments before sending a message on to you. However, you CAN be infected when someone from the mailing list who has the virus sends an email directly to you (They don't do it intentionally - it's part of the virus infection). The most common viruses right now are BadTrans and SirCam. I have received at least 2 copies every day for the last week of the SirCam virus. You can [usually] recognize it by the double file extension, for example the attachment could be named "my_file.doc.exe" or "ardie_income.xls.pif". It takes a file from "My Documents", adds the virus info, and sends it to everyone in the infected computer's address book. It could choose a file with confidential information saved on the computer and send it to everyone. Here's what YOU need to do: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER open an attachment to an email, unless you know the person sending it, AND are expecting to receive an email with attachment. Then scan the attachment with your virus program before opening it. Have a virus program installed on your computer, and make sure you update it often (weekly is recommended). Have it set to scan incoming email. If you receive a virus in an attachment, immediately delete it from your inbox, then immediately empty the trash on your mail program. Educate yourself about viruses - I subscribe to a couple of newsletters from the virus software people, that warn about commonly encountered viruses and their behavior. Or if you don't want to subscribe to a newsletter, each company has their own virus "library" with information about the characteristics & fixes for each recognized virus. Please do not reply to this message on the list. If you want web sites with virus information, please email me at agrimes@inetnebr.com and I will be glad to send you a list. Have a safe virus-free summer, Ardie List Admin: Norton County, Kansas Mailing List
Hi I am entering some names in the cencus of Norton County Ks and there is a Grant Township in the southeastern part of Norton Kansas. There are some Grants in the census on 1985 Kansas. I am entering the entire county and there are also some rundles in the cencus. There were some Rundels that lived across the street from us when I was about 12 years old. I don't remember their given names tho. This would have been in 1947. http://www.kshs.org/library/cens8ks.htm This is where the cencus is listed. You might check this. This is the Kansas Agricultural cencus but it does have all the people in it plus some information about how much land and what was planted on the land. Hope this helps. Thank you, thank you!I I could not say about the discrepancy in dates but the name is definitely Wilmot not Wilmont. Pauline Bug somebody to go and read those Lenora cemeteries! :-)
Thanks Didn't think there wete but hoped there might be. Have a good 4th of July Glenn
Glenn No other names listed besides Child Hinkle. Sorry Sharleen > Snip>>> > Do you have any Hinkle/Henkle/Henkel besides Baby Hinkle.
The information from the Lenora cemetery listing shows different spelling and different death dates. Jessie Wilmont 1810-1894 and Elizabeth Wilmont 1824-1904 both buried in the East Cemetery. Sharleen snip>>> > Thanks The names I am looking for are Jesse Wilmot 1810-1893 and his wife > Elizabeth (Luther) 1824-1905. > > > >
Sharleen You are a Dear. Do you have any Hinkle/Henkle/Henkel besides Baby Hinkle. I can't find any records of Hinkle's (any spelling) except what I have on Grandmother Mary May Henkel Roe, and John & Lidia Henkle when they started the Rose Hill School (1889) Norcatur Centennial Book. Its probably a long shot but I keep searching. Glenn
Thanks The names I am looking for are Jesse Wilmot 1810-1893 and his wife Elizabeth (Luther) 1824-1905. These are not direct ancestors but rather collateral. I am a descendant of Abraham Hendricks, Lenora's first postmaster and storekeeper. He is buried in the East or as originally called Hendricks Cemetery and I would assume the Wilmots would be in that cemetery also. Pauline (Allen) Wagoner
Glenn Both counties have a copy of the Norcatur Cemetery. I know the Decatur genealogy society is going to re-walk it and update it this fall when it gets cooler weather here in Kansas. I do have a copy of the old list from here in Decatur county if you would like a lookup.
