The two Vance marriages are 1) Vance, Horace W. age 56 to Dearston, Melinda age 50; 26 May 1892 Volume E-1 page 386 2) Vance, Lorenzo W. 29 to Aitkin, Alice M. 20; 16 April 1903 Volume H page 277 I also checked "Cemetery Inscriptions of Neosho County Kansas" (1978). There are a number of burials for the surname Vance, Thorpe, and Strange, but I didn't find anything for the names you have listed. Same thing for the book "Tombstone Inscriptions Labette County Kansas" volumes I and II. Good luck with your search. Kim Baker Topeka, KS

Surnames: STRANGE, THORP, VANCE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Fm.2ADI/355 Message Board Post: In the "Marriages of Neosho County, Kansas 1864-1915" by the Chanute Genealogical Society (1983) is there a Matilda THORP or VANCE [b. abt 1847] getting married between 1860 and 1870? Her mother Mary STRANGE THORP and stepfather James VANCE moved to the part of Neosho Co. that later became Labette Co. She also had THORP siblings, Henry [b. abt 1854] and Emily [b. abt 1856]. Mary's half-siblings were John, Eliza and another Henry A. VANCE. James VANCE [b. 1795] died at their farm in Osage Twp, Labette Co. in 1872 but we don't know what became of the other family members. Evidently the mother remarried and the children took the new stepfather's name.
