I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the HARTER, WILLIAMS, and KAUFFMAN Families. The first is a photograph of Mary Catherine WILLIAMS HARTER with three children, Mabel, Nellie, and Basil and her sister in law Sarah HARTER KAUFFMAN and Sarah's daughter Susie KAUFFMAN. No location indicated on photograph, likely taken in the 1890's. The two women appear to be in their 30's or 40's and the children range from about 3 years to early teens. The second photograph is one of Mary Catherine WILLIAMS HARTER, wife of Leander Douglass HARTER with children Mabel and Basil. The photograph was taken at the Uhlman Studio in St. Joseph, Missouri. Likely taken in the 1880's, Mary appears to be in her 20's with Basil an infant and Mabel about 4 years old. In addition to their names, someone writes "two of the four children born to this couple, two additional children, Nellie Susan HARTER b. 3 Nov 1890 in Salina, KS and Noel David HARTER b. 1 Nov 1904 in Oklahoma Territory" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Mary Catherine WILLIAMS was b. 7 Feb 1866 in Athens, MO, married Leander HARTER and died in OK in 1926. She is buried in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK. Mary was living at 1722 W 29th Street in Oklahoma City at the time of her death. Leander Douglas HARTER was b. 22 Aug 1858 in Denver, IL to parents Joseph HARTER (b. 5 May 1809-d. 19 Sept 1887 in Oneida, KS) and Susanna DODD (b. 9 May 1815-d. 26 Apr 1893). Leander was one of 15 children born to this couple including, George Marion; Caleb Anderson.; Henry Floyd; Sarah; Joseph Benjamin.; Harvey L.; Alvester or Aloester; William; Isaac Foster; Hiram Ballard; David William; Dearlee; Leander Dearler or Douglas; Mary Elizabeth; and Alverda Ann HARTER, all born in VA or IL between 1835 and 1858. Leander married Mary Catherine WILLIAMS. Leander died in 1938 in Oklahoma City, OK. Leander & Mary had 4 children including, Mable Williams; Basil Douglas; Nellie Susan; and Noel David HARTER, all born between 1886 and 1904. Mable Williams HARTER was b. 13 Aug 1886 in Oneida, KS to parents Leander Douglas HARTER and Mary Catherine WILLIAMS. Mable married Charles M. INGRAM (b. 1875). Mable died in Oklahoma City, OK on 23 April 1922. Basil Douglas HARTER was b. 1 Jan 1889 in Rice County, KS to parents Leander & Mary HARTER. Basil married Hazel THOMAS and together they had one child. Basil died in 1962 and is buried in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK. Nellie Susan HARTER was b. 3 Nov 1890 in Salina KS and married Guymond G. PRIDDY (b. 1881) on 20 Jul 1910 in Near Walters, OK. Nellie and Guymond had two sons, Donald and Ronald twins born in 1918 and died that same year. Nellie died 30 Apr 1977 in Redding, CA. Noel D. HARTER was b. 1 Nov 1904 and died in Oklahoma City, OK on 6 Mar 1989. Sarah Luemma HARTER was b. 20 Feb 1842 in Floyd Co. VA and 1st married Joseph T. SLUSHER (b. 1835 in VA), Sarah and Joseph had two children, Luella Ann b. 1862 in Hancock Co. IL, and Joseph T. SLUSHER b. 1864 in Hancock Co. IL. Joseph SLUSHER died shortly after the birth of his son in 1864. Sarah's second marriage in 1869 was to Enoch Van Buren KAUFFMAN. Sarah died in Lincoln, NE on 28 Apr 1928. Susie Rebecca KAUFFMAN was b. 23 Apr 1880 to parents Enoch Van Buren KAUFFMAN (b. 6 Nov 1840 in Mauck's Mill, VA) and Sarah Luemma HARTER (b. 20 Feb 1842 in Floyd County, VA). Susie was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Henry Philip; William Lester; Stella May; Harley; and Susie Rebecca KAUFFMAN, all born in Cass Co. MO between 1869 and 1880. Susie married George AYERS (1882-1927) and they had two children. HARTER, wife, age 44, born MO Maybell W. HARTER, dau, age 24, born KS Nellie HARTER, dau, age 19, born KS Noel David HARTER, son, age 5, born OK 1910 census of Beaver Township, Comanche Co, OK: Basil D. HARTER, age 21, born KS, parents born IL/MO, a Farmer 1920 census of Oklahoma City, OK: Leander D. HARTER, age 63, born IL, parents born VA Mary C. HARTER, wife, age 53, born MO, parents born OH Basil D. HARTER, son, age 31, born KS Noel D. HARTER, son, age 15, born OK Charles M. INGRAM, son-in-law, age 45, born MO, parents born MO Mable H.
