    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: judyartley26191 Surnames: McCaw, McCoy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.nemaha/488.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, John McFall died Jan 1873 in Nemaha Co. per the Jason Gross Family Tree, www.ancestry.com. Generally I don't rely on family trees for any info but death records weren't required in Kansas until 1911. There were some records before then but they were sparse. I don't know if the Nemaha County Genealogical Society Six & Nemaha Seneca, KS 66538 will look up an obit or not. But here's their contact info if you're interested in finding his obit but probably will be a death notice if anything. You might have to contact the Nemaha Circuit Court for his will/probate info if you really need/want his death date. I couldn't find Mary's married to John D. McCoy. The Gross family tree said they married 3 Dec 1875 in Nemaha. According to the Gross family tree, Mary died 10 March 1889 in Nemaha Co. Esther McCaw Born: 1808 Died: 1891 Buried: Woodlawn Cemetery Source: www.findagrave.com which includes a pic of her tombstone Here's the Census info you didn't mention. 1895 Capioma, Nemaha, KS John McCoy, b. ireland, 62, widower, farmer Mary A., dau, b. KS Source: Kansas Deaths & Burials Index 1885-1930 There is a book the "History of Nemaha County Kansas", 1916 that is online at www.archive.org/. Your family surnames are in this book. The Nemeha County Genealgoical Society, www.kansasheritage.org/seneca/gensoc/genrecord.html but it doesn't say if they do research or not. Nemaha County newspapers are on microfilm at the Kansas Historical Society, www.kshs.org/newspaper/newspaper_reels/search/county:NM. You can decide which one you want to look at and contact your local public library to order the microfilm via inter-library loan. There is a Nemaha County web site, http://ks-nemaha.manatron.com/ElectedOfficials/CountyClerk/ which says that birth, marriage and death records 1885-1911 are available but they don't say who to contact. You might have to contact the Clerk of Nemaha Co. Court for will/probate and guardian records for each person who died. There just isn't any easy answer to find these early records.
