Sorry, I've taken so long to reply. Below is the link for the Kansas State Historical Society's Nemaha County records on microfilm. Good chance that the probate files and or Administrator's/Executor's files may contain that information. Those records go back to that time period. There is a link on the page about how to order the microfilm via interlibrary loan. http://www.kshs.org/p/local-records-microfilm-nemaha-co/11138 You could also try calling the KSHS and speaking to a librairian. They might have a better idea where to find that type of record. The FamilySearch may also have the same microfilm available for rental to your local Family History Center. James traces back a few generations to Edward Stephenson, who was killed in a famous Native American attack at Paint Lick, Ky., in Madison County. Edward's father was also Edward, b. about 1714, d. 1766 in Amherst Co., Va. That's as far back as I've been able to go so far. I'm descended from Edward Jr.'s brother Robert. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Orlo WILCOX which was taken at the J. W. Bates Studio in Payette, Idaho. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Orlo likely in his teens or 20's at the time it was taken. I also believe that this is the same Orlo WILCOX who appeared in earlier photographs I posted (July 2011) which were taken at studios in Oregon State. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Orlo and his family: Orlo K. WILCOX was b. 16 Jun 1881 in Corning, KS to parents Oliver Kent WILCOX (b. 6 Aug 1847 in MI) and Sarah Jane PURVIS (b. 13 Jan 1840 in Sullivan, IL). The couple had 4 children including, Francis Everett; Arthur Lemon; Oliver Wesley; and Orlo Kent WILCOX, all born in Wyandotte, Reno, or Nemaha Counties in KS between 1875 and 1881. Orlo married Bertha Emily WILSON (b. 22 Oct 1886 in Washington, KS) on 16 Jun 1909 in Linn Co. OR and together they had 7 children including, Helen Lucille; Donald W.; Mary Faye; and four others born in Oregon and Idaho. In 1910 the couple was in Fruitland, ID and Orlo died 16 Jun 1970 in Granada Hills, CA. I am hoping to be able to return the photograph to a member of this family. I would love to know the circumstances of his death and why he is buried in Oneida. His grave marker is a stack of red bricks with "E WARD" chiseled into one of them. I do have a photo. Ebenezer's wife, Sarah Ann Orner, was born in PA in 1840 and is buried as "Mrs. Dr." Sarah Ward in Tecumseh NE in 1921 Their daughter, Eva Jane Ward, was born 1877 in IA, worked in a restaurant in Seneca KS, and married Julius Howard Orlick/Orlik/Orlich in 1897 in Seneca. I don't see Elijah Ward in the 1901 death records I have--however, they may not be complete. There is an Edward Ward, age 83, farmer, died Sept. 4, 1900 in Oneida. It doesn't say what killed him, but whatever it was, he suffered from it for 20 months.
