Gladys Sadie SMITH, 92, formerly of Coffeyville, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Medicalodge of Dewey where she had been a resident since 1995. Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 21, 1907, in Labette County, near Oswego, to David and Murttie May (Leka) Hollis. She married Ether F. Smith on March 9, 1929, near Oswego. The couple farmed until 1948. At that time, Mr. and Mrs. SMith entered the Assemblies of God ministry. They pastored churches in Kansas and Oklahoma and retired in Coffeyville. Mr. Smith preceded his wife in death in 1982. Besides a minister's wife, Mrs. Smith was a seamstress, and sewed for many people. About nine yeasr ago, she suffered a stroke that left her completely helpless. Survivors include two sons, Carl of Soap Lake, Wash., James of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two daughters, Ruth GILSTRAP, of Bartlesville, and Naomi Elliott of Copan; two brothers, Oliver HOLLIS, of Topeka, and Ray Hollis, of Godfrey, Ill.; two sisters, Nora MILLER of Coffeyville and Hazel ROBINETTE of Sarasota, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Edgewood Chapel, Coffeyville. Burial will be at Lake Creek Union Cemetery, Bartlett. Friends may call until 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
