The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Tuesday August 24, 1937 Death Removes Amos Metzgar. Funeral for Elk City Civil War Veteran Wednesday. Amos METZGAR, 92, a Civil war veteran, died at his home in Elk City Monday afternoon after an illness of three weeks. Infirmities of age was given as the cause of death. Mr. Metzgar was born in Ohio, April 18, 1845 and came to Kansas 65 years ago and had lived in the vicinity of Elk City since that time. He served in the 55th Ohio Infantry. He had been engaged in farming most of his life. Surviving are one son, Ernest and a daughter, Addie Metzgar, both of Elk City. Mr. Metzgar was the last of his immediate family. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Elk City with Rev. H. C. Brockman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
