The Coffeyville Journal Montgomery County Wednesday September 15, 1999 Merle Kniffen. Merle A. KNIFFEN, 80, of rural Sedan, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Coffeyville. Mr. Kiffen was born April 20, 1919, at Elk Heart, to James Lemuel and Enda Pearl (Bingley) Kniffen. He lived in the Elk City area all his life. He served in the army during World War II, in Italy, as a mail clerk. Mr. Kinnfen is a lifelong member of First Christian Church, Elk City. He married Mae McFALL on Aug. 10, 1946. Mrs. Kniffen preceded her husband in death on Oct. 6, 1997. He had worked as a pipefitter and also farmed. Mr. Kniffen belonged to the Pipefitters Union, Local #171, Wichita. Survivors include a daughter, Susan CALLAWAY of Fort Smith, Ark.; a son, Steve of Sedan; a brother, Max of Howard; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Elk City. Arrangements are by Webb and Rodrick Funeral Home. Memorial are suggested to go to American Lung Association, Easter Seals or the March of Dimes.
