I suspect you have read the article: A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans. Vol. III. William E. Connelley. Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago-New York, 1918. Page 1239, about Harry Jiencke. The article mentions Gustav Jiencke, Harry Jiencke's brother. Gustav (Gustave) Jiencke was my (step?) great great grandfather, which would make Harry Jiencke my (step?) great great great uncle (?). My last name is Jiencke. My blood great great grandmother (Laura) was raised in the Detlefsen household in Flensburg, Germany. Laura may have been an orphan. Laura "Detlefsen" gave birth to Frederick [Fried.] William [Wilhelm] Detlefsen in 1889 in Flensburg. Laura and her infant son Frederick ["Fried", my great grandfather] traveled from Hamburg to New York later in 1889 ("Fried" was 8 months old at the time). By the time Laura married Gustav(e) Jiencke in Chicago in 1891, she was going under the name "Laura Daehnhardt". I suspect that either: 1. Laura's blood parents were of the name "Daehnhardt" Or 2. Laura married a "Daehnhardt" at some point before the marriage to Gustav (e). I suppose it is possible that Gustav(e) fathered my great grandfather in Germany (possibly on a trip to Germany?) and then Laura and Gustav (Gustave) were formally married in the United States. But I have not gotten that far in the research yet. I had someone in Germany research various archives, but I did not get very much information besides the birth record for my great grandfather and a couple other documents. (We did eliminate some possible sources of information which in itself is perhaps valuable for someone doing similar research.) Gustav(e) and Laura and son Frederick lived in Butte, Montana for a time. Frederick left Butte at the age of 13, and ended up in Seattle, Washington. That is where our family has lived since. Anyways, I do have a couple other documents if you might be interested. I am certainly most interested in expanding my family tree (both of my "blood" family and my possibly "step" family). So, any information and/or documents you or other people have for Jiencke, Daehnhardt, Detlefsen (etc) would be of great interest to me. Thanks for reading the long response. Fred
