The Independence Daily Reporter Mongtomery County Wednesday August 4, 1937 Death Takes James Smith. Tyro Farmer Dies at Home of Daughter. James L. SMITH, 76, a Tyro farmer for 55 years, died at 6:05 Tuesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alta RILEY, Route 3, following an illness of several months. Cancerous condition was give as the cause of death. Mr. Smith was born June 5, 1861 in Indiana and at the age of 21 came to Kansas and settled on a farm near Tyro, where he had since resided. Surviving are the wife of Wann, Okla., five sons, C.J. of Bartlesville, L.E. of Caney, W.W. of Tyro, Bob and Clarence of Wann, Okla.; three daughters, Mrs. NOTLEY of Wann, Okla., Mrs. Etta LaFAVOR of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. Alta RILEY, Route 3, Independence. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Methodist church in Tyro with Rev. R.L. Hobart in charge. Burial will be in Pioneer cemetery under the direction of the Jackson mortuary.
