The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Monday July 19, 1937 Heart Attack Fatal to William H. SPAYD, Long A Cherryvale Resident. Cherryvale, July 19, (Special)--William Henry SPAYD, 77, a resident of Cherryvale for 55 years, died at his home here Saturday evening following an illness of a few days. Death was attributed to a heart disorder. Mr. Spayd was born July 16, 1860, in Scheafferstown, Pa., and came to Cherryvale when a young man. He operated a blacksmith shop here for many years and was said to have sold the first automobile in Cherryvale. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. Mr. Spayd first suffered a heart attack Thursday on a Cherryvale street. He had just returned from a business trip to Springfield, Mo., and complained of not feeling well. The widow, Mrs. Lillian Spayd, and one brother, Elie Spayd of Bartlesville, Okla., survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church in Cherryvale with Rev. R. W. Shaw in charge. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery under the direction of the McDaniel funeral home.
