The town site was located in Feb. 1887 when route of the Rock Island railroad was determined. There was some discussion when it was discovered the site was the burial ground for a Russian Mennonite colony that had settled in the area 13 years before. Energetic residents of the new town, however, re-located the cemetery moving 120 coffins, and grave markers to the new spot. The rail line was completed through Inman July 4, 1887.
