WHITE, 46, died Thursday morning of a heart attack 10 minutes after he had gone on duty as yard foreman at the Ozark smelter in Coffeyville. He had been employed there 25 years. The wife and four children survive. Funeral arranagements are incomplete.

    3. The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Thursday July 29, 1937 Hiram D. Ward. Hiram D. WARD, 66, resident of Coffeyville for 20 years before moving to Wichita to make his home five years ago, died in a hospital there Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Ward died in 1917. Surviving are a daughter and two sons. The body has been returned to Coffeyville for interment.

    3. The Indpendence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Thursday July 29, 1937 Death Removes Chas. Overfield. Funeral Services Saturday fro Sycamore Farmer. Charles OVERFIELD, 81, farmer of rural route one, Sycamore, passed away at 3:25 o'clock this morning at Mercy hospital after a short illness. Death was due to pneumonia. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ed BARTON, of Wiley, Colo.; two sons, Tom of Sycamore and Chester of the rural home and three brothers, Will of Independence, Ninion of Pawhuska, Okla., and George Overfield of Bartlesville, Okla. Mrs. Overfield passed away several years ago. Charles Overfield was born on Jan 1, 1856, in Lawrence and settled on a farm in the Sycamore vicinity in 1912. He had been a resident of Kansas all his life. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Jackson chapel with Rev. E.S. De Spain of the Grace Methodist church in charge. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.

    3. The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Wednesday July 28, 1937 Death Removes Jacob E. Smith. Prominent Cherryvale Farmer Dies Here. Jacob E. SMITH, 82, farmer of rural route four, Cherryvale, died at Mercy hospital about 5:30 Tuesday afternoon after a lengthly illness. He was admitted to the local hospital on July 19 and underwent a major operaton Tuesday morning from which he failed to rally. Besides his wife of the rural home, four children survive. They are: three sons, Perry C. of Chicago, Leon E. Smith of Danville, Ohio, Chalmers O. of Chicago, and a daughter, Florence Smith of the home address. Mrs. Smith was born at Frederick, Md., Sept. 22, 1854 and had been a farmer in the Cherryvale vicinity for the past 29 years. Funeral services will probably be held Friday afternoon at Cherryvale with burial in the Fairview cemetery. The Burns Funeral Home of Cherryvale has charge of the body.

    3. The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Wednesday July 28, 1937 Funeral Services Held Today for E.D. Wolverton. Funeral services for E. DeWitt WOLVERTON, long time employe of the the local post office, who passed away at the home early Monday morning, were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Presbyterian church. The Rev. Royal Humbert, pastor of the First Christian church, had charge of the rites. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery. Active pallbearers were: J.R. BARNHART, F.M. DeVORE, N.C. FELDMAN, J.N. MASTERS, Dr. F.C. TAYLOR and L.L. VROOMAN. Thirty-three postal employes, associates of the deceased acted as honorary pallbearers as die dmember of the Knights Templar, Masonic order, I.O.O.F, and the King's Daughters class of the First Presbyterian church.

Prominent among the mid-summer parties was the luncheon-bridge at which Mrs. Guy STRAWN entertained 24 friends, including Mrs. J. Fred DILLMAN, Mrs. Henry MASON, Mrs. Dan WORK, Mrs. R.P. COLEMAN and Mrs. Jess OTTERSTATTER of Tulsa and Mrs. Clyde MORRIS and Mrs. Brice SUTTON of Bartlesville, Tuesday. The guests were received in the Strawn home, 319 North Fourth, for the affair. Places for the out-of-town guests were marked at a long table in the dinning room and the other guests were seated at quartet tables. Joanna Hill roses, arranged in a swan bowl, formed the centerpiece for the dining table and rosebuds in small vases centered the other tables. The yellow and white color combination was predominant in all the appointments. Mrs. Edith SKINNER and Mrs. Morris HAAS wer presented the score favors for the guests from this city and the scores for the out-of-town guests were held by Mrs. MORRIS and Mrs. WORK. Mrs. F.J. SELLARS was awarded the cut prize. This morning Mrs. Sellars was hostess at her home, 619 North Ninth, when she entertained with an informal breakfast. The guests were Mrs. STRAWN, Mrs. DILLMAN, Mrs. WORK, Mrs. COLEMAN, Mrs. MASON, and Mrs. Paul POTTER. Mrs. WORK has been the guest of Mrs. SELLARS and Mrs. STRAWN has entertained Mrs. DILLMAN and Mrs. COLEMAN. Mrs. MASON was the guest of Mrs. POTTER. Mrs. OTTERSTATTER, Mrs. MORRIS and MRs. SUTTON returned to their homes last night. The other out-of-town guests will return this afternoon to Tulsa. All are former Independence residents.

Mrs. Brewer taught at Jonesburg, west of Caney, last year. Mr. Brewer has also been a teacher in the rural school in this county. He is a nephew of C.F. Brewer of this city.
