The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Friday October 1, 1937 Lester Wooten. Private funeral services were held today for Lester Eugene WOOTEN, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wooten of Fredonia, who died Wednesday following a short illness with diphtheria.
The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Friday October 1, 1937 Mrs. Sarah Lindsey Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth LINDSEY, 81, long-time resident of the Cascade community near Caney, will be held Friay afternoon at the Cascade schoolhouse. Burial will be made at Niotaze. Mrs. Lindsey died Wednesday at the home of a daughter in Kansas City. Three sons and three daughters survive.

The Independence Daily Reporter Mongtomery County Thursday September 30, 1937 H.C. Wingate. Funeral services for H.C. WINGATE, 68, a resident of Coffeyville and Liberty, until 30 years ago, will be held tomorrow at Liberty. Wingate died Tuesday at the home of a nephew, Ralph Wingate, in Tulsa.

The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Thursday September 30, 1937 David H. Smith. David H. SMITH, 51, Sinclair refinery stillman, at Coffeyville, died yesterday afternoon in a Halstead hospital where he underwent an operation Monday. The body has been returned to Coffeyville for burial.
The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Thursday September 30, 1937 Death Removes James Sandford. Attorney Had Practices Law Here for 20 Years. James Fenner SANFORD, 55, an Independence attorney for 20 years, died Wednesday night at 9:30 in Mercy hospital following a month's illness. Exhaustion following an attack of typhoid fever was given as the cause of death. Mr. Sanford was born Dec. 27, 1881, in Coulterville, Ill., where he attended public and high schools. May 13, 1898, he entered the law office of Adam Russell in Coulterville, serving his apprenticeship and was admitted to the Illinois bar Dec. 11, 1907. He formed a partnership of Russell and Sandford and was prominent in civic affairs for several years. He served as a member of the Coulterville board of education for seven years and for a time was president of the board. He was city attorney there for several years. At one time Mr. Sanford was the Republican nominee for state attorney of Illinois and was a member of the county committee. Mr. Sandford moved to Independence, December, 1917 and was admitted to the Kansas bar on May 20, 1918. On Jan. 13, 1919 he was appointed assistant county attorney and later resigned Dec. 1, 1920 to enter private law practice. He is survived by one son, Roland of Sacramento, Calif. Two brothers, William and John are also believed to be living but there whereabouts is unknown. The body is in the Amos-Rodrick Funeral home pending funeral arrangements.

The Independence Daily Reporter Thursday September 30, 1937 Laura May ASHBAUGH was born near St.Joespeh, Mo., May 20, 1861. She departed this life at Independence, Kansas, September 27, 1937, at the age of seventy-six years, four months and seven days. At the age of eleven she removed to Montgomery county, Kansas, the family settling near Elk City. She made her home in this same community most of her life, Independence being her home for the last twelve years. On October 4, 1891, she was united in marriage to Isaac M. ARGO. To this union were born four children. A son and daughter died in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death passing away March 4, 1935. She is survived by two sons, Victor and David and a grandson, John, all of Independence. She was a member of the Methodist church from her early girlhood and a faithful and devoted Christian to the end. A loving mother, good neighbor, true friend, she will be missed by those who knew her. Funeral services will be held at the Grace M.E. church Tuesday afternoon with the pastor, and the former pastor, Rev. A.C. Stewart, officiating. Interment was in the White cemetery near Lafontaine.
The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Thursday September 30, 1937 Funeral of Hudson Wingate Set for Friday at Liberty. Funeral services for the late Hudson WINGATE will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church at Liberty, where he was reared and was among the early residents. Burial will be in the Liberty cemetery. Mr. Wingate was found dead in bed Tuesday morning at the home of a nephew, Ralph Wingate, in Tulsa, where he had been visiting a short time. Although he had been ill his death from a heart attack was unexpected. He had gone to Tulsa from California where he had made his home with a niece since the death of his wife two years ago in Canada, where they had resided for several years.

His dad was H. I. Dolson and was a M.E. minister, last i knew. Edgar's wifes' name would of been Harriett, but she died in Crawford County. Edgar had a brother B. W.that was living there per the 1930 census. I know that H. I. and his wife died there. Thanks for any help or if anyone can tell me of a funeral home that would have been in or about Coffeyville from 1940 to aleast 1960. The McLouth Times Friday September 16, 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Don KIMMEL and Linda Sue returned to their home in Lincoln, Nebraska, after spending the vacation holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Claude KIMMEL at McLouth and Mr. and Mrs. Robert TURNER and Karen Sue of Tonganoxie. Mr. and Mrs. C.G. SANDERS left from Kansas City Saturday night on a tour of the East with a group. They will see Niagara Falls, both in Canada and the United States, also New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and various other places. They will also have an all night boat ride. Mrs. F.S. CHAMPION went to Topeka by bus Friday to see her sister, Mrs. Iva STEVENS, who has been very ill at St. John's hospital. Mrs. Stevens' brother, Leonard FARR and Mrs. Farr were visitors Saturday evening with his sister. Miss Fannie LOBB and Miss Hetty GEORGE are working in Topeka at Hallmark Greeting Card Company. Mr. and Mrs. Frank LOBB, Mr. and Mrs. Paul WHITE and Pauline went to Topeka Sunday to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger SIMON for a birthday dinner in honor of little Alan Simon and also for Mrs. Roy ROSS>

The Independence Daily Reporter Montgomery County Wednesday September 29, 1937 Mrs. Jessie Wolfinger. Funeral services were held at Fredonia this afternoon for Mrs. Jessie WOLFINGER, former resident, who died Saturday in a St. Joseph hospital. Three daughters survive.
