At the age of 22 he was united in marriage with Miss Caroline Flora. To this union were born three children. Mrs Ida Kaulen, Wathena, Kansas; J.N. Quakenbush, Beloit Kansas; and James W. who passed on with his mother in infancy. In 1882 he was again married to Mrs Tallie Hughes of Metropolis Illinois. This union was blessed with three children. Mrs Elsie Morgan, Mrs Winnie James and Clayton Quakenbush, all of Hoxie Kansas. In 1909 he was married to Miss Emma Thompson of Hoxie and to this union were born nine children. Mrs Gladys Travis, Concordia Kansas; Floyd, Clifford and Evelyn; the remaining five have passed on in early infancy. In addition to the widow the deceased is survived by nine sons and daughters, twenty-four grandchildren, one great-grand daughter and one sister, Mrs J S. Abram of Beloit; all of who attended the funeral except Mrs J S Abram and Mr and Mrs Joe Kaulen. They visited him however while he was in the Quinter hospital. For many months the deceased has been a great sufferer and because of that his demise was not unexpected, yet it brought great sorrow not only to his relatives but a large circle of friends in Mitchell and Sheridan Counties. >From 1883 to 1905 he lived near Scottsville, Mitchell Co and from 1905 until his death he was a resident of southeast Sheridan County where he was a great factor in the development and upbuilding of that wonderful empire. Funeral occurred December ? Bethel Church and was conducted by Rev Brown at which interment was had at Bethel's beautiful little city for the dead where so many friends and neighbors response. Thus is briefly told the history of one of the county's most highly respected and industrious citizens -- the type of citizen when passing means a great loss-- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------
