I am trying to match up a Levi Howland who was in Mo. in 1865 where he married Maria Randell from Va. They had six children and I do not know their names, and I have not been able to find them in the census. Levi was a harness maker and his sympathy was with the southern cause during the war between the states. He was originally from South Danby, Tompkins County, NY. James is not an uncommon name in the family, but is also not an uncommon name in general.
