    3. Dear Listers, I am hoping that someone may be able to help me locate information on my grandfather's brother's family Below is what my grandmother shared with me and what I have located. My grandfather died when I was three, in 1944. I have checked KS records at USGENWEB, genealogytrails, Rootsweb sources, Ancestry.com sources, LDS resources I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas or whom to contact. I am not sure what records might be available. If someone is able to visit the cemetery where they are buried and obtain that information, or the courthouse, if there are records available, I would be happy to pay a reasonable fee for that service. *Edwin Elder Ralston* was born in PA in _Feb 1863._ By the_ *KS 1885*_ state census he is in _McPherson_ working as a cook for _Benjamin Robinson_, hotel keeper. His wife *Jennie J*. [1866, Sweden] is with him. However, she was also with her family in *1885*, *Charles J*. and *Charlotta Lundgren/Landgren/Langren* of New Gottland. Her family had immigrated from Sweden to USA abt *1870*, according to births of her siblings. They may have stopped in Illinois for a short period before coming to Kansas. Either the March 1st date for the state census was a format date, with various areas being done close to that date, but not necessarily on that date; or they had just married. I do not know how long Edwin had been in Kansas. I do know that *Edwin *and* son Ed *were both_ Cooks_. In the *1895* Census Ed is still a Cook in a hotel in McPherson and they have Ed son 9 yrs Nettie dau 7 yrs In the *1900* Census Ed Feb 1863 37 yrs Cook in McPherson Born in PA Jennie Jan 1866 34 yrs Sweden Eddie J Jan 1885 15 yrs KS Nettie S. Dec 1887 13 yrs KS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the* KS 1905 c*ensus: Ed is widowed, 42 yrs, Cook Nettie is 17 yrs Ed is 19 yrs ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In* 1906 Nettie* md *John Oneill* and by the *1910* census they have had two children, one of which had died. My grandmother thought that both had died young. In the _1910 census_ they are living in Cook Avenue, St. Louis, MO, md 4 yrs, and 2/1 children listed for Nettie, but none shown on the census record. The name is spelled Oneil with *John C*. listed as a Commercial Traveler of patent medicine. Also, with them as a boarder is *Frank J. Oneil*, Sales Mgr Medical/Medicine Company. The birthplace is completely accurate for *Nettie=KS/PA/SWE* but *John* is listed as *MO/KY/KY*, with *Frank J.* as *KY/KY/KY.* I wondered if Frank was John's brother or cousin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In *1910 *I cannot find *Ed, Sr.* but there is a *James E*. 24 yrs, as a servant, a _cook_ in a restaurant I do not know if this is my Ed from above info. There is also a *James E* in the _WWI Draft Board Registration_ and in the _SS#, _and dates of birth fit In the *KS 1925* census, He is listed as* James Edd. Ralston *39 yrs, with *Lucile*, wife, 41 yrs. My Ed will marry *abt 1912, Lucile Raffensberger*, dau of *John Raffensberger. * I don't think there were any children. *Edwin Elder Ralston *died in January of *1929*. He had a heart attack on the way to visit his brother *William,* just before he reached Salt Lake City. His son came and took his father back to _McPherson_ to be buried. ~~~~~ I am very interested in obtaining the *death information* for *Jennie J. Ralston* =between 1900-1905; *Lucile/Lucy A. Raffensberger Ralston Ed Jr. Ralston. *These should be in _McPherson_ city. Also, the two children of Nettie and John Oneill, between 1906-1920, who were buried in _McPherson_. *Marriage for Ed and Jennie, *abt 1885* Marriage for Ed. Jr and Lucile, *possibly between 1910-1920 Verification that *Ed. Jr. Ralston* is the same person as *James E. Ralston *[The father of Edwin and my grandfather was named *James*] ~~~~~~~~~~~* *Regarding *John Oneill *and *Nettie Ralston Oneill:* In the 1920 and 1930 census of Kansas City, Jackson, MO there is: _*1920 *Census, Wd 12, Dist.183, Image 28 of 33 _ 368 Linwood Avenue *John B. Oneil* Renting, 40 yrs, KS/IL.IL Proprietor of Restaurant *Nettie Oneil * 38 yrs, KS/PA/Sweden ~~~~~~~ _*1930 *Census Wd 5, Block 53, Dist.84, Image 27 of 54 _368 Linwood Avenue *John B. Oneil * 53 yrs, md 23 yrs KS/CT/IL Mgr of Sandwich Shop *Harriet Oneil * 46 yrs 23 yrs KS/IL/IL Cashier of Sandwich Shop ~~~~~~~~ I think this might be my couple, with the census taker incorrectly recording Nettie's name as Harriet Oneil. The address was exactly the same, and the marriage fits [1906] Thank you for taking time to read through this. I am sorry that it is so long. Susan E * *
